Position Summary
The Innovation Software Engineer will work in the Innovation group. This person will develop and test prototype concepts that will range in scope and scale. The objective of the development effort is to validate the technical feasibility of new, innovative concepts. As part of the technical validation, the development efforts will also test and plan for global deployment and a scalable user base.
This person will work closely with internal and external resources. Internally, the projects will be defined in the Product Marketing group. The engineer will work with the Technology Development teams to insure that the innovation concepts can interface with our existing products and services. External partners will also be used to provide best-of-breed solutions.
A goal of the prototype phase is to deliver elements that can be demonstrated and customized. Once a prototype is validated, it will be built out for pilot testing. The pilot test will enable the element to be operated in a live, but controlled and limited, environment. Once enhanced or modified, the pilot element will be built into a product.
The software engineer has the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects. These projects will range from mobile applications to social media integration to digital content distribution. He/she must also have a strong, innate desire to want to learn new languages and development techniques for new platforms (e.g., digital signage, mobile, tablets) and uses (e.g., social media, targeted marketing, etc.).
He/she must be flexible in their work environment to be able to address the variety of projects. A strong knowledge of a multiple high-level programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Perl, Python, Ruby, JavaScript, jQuery, YUI) is a must. Good communication (oral and written) skills are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
?Responsible for development and testing of software for multiple projects
?Participation in the architecture sessions that help define and refine user stories and scenarios
?Delivery of high quality code that is built for scale and real time operations. Must follow industry standard software development practices.
?Gain working knowledge of existing systems as the team maintains a well-balanced knowledge base of all products across the team
?Works closely with all members of the Technology Development, Product Marketing, and Innovation team.
Experience/Education/Certifications
?BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related discipline; post graduate education desired
?Minimum 5 years? experience in a software development and in the delivery of software based products.
?Experienced in iterative development methodologies (e.g., Agile, RAD, etc)
?Demonstrated expert in software engineering practices
?Excellent verbal and written communications skills
?Ability to collaborate with management peers inside and outside technology
?Prior experience working with global third-party vendor/consulting relationships
?Has a strong sense of the external environment, the competitive landscape and leading-edge technology to ensure the implementation of the appropriate technical architectures and solutions
?Strong desire and aptitude to learn new technologies
