This position is responsible for managing a software development team with specific responsibility for product enhancements and project deliverables. This person will work with other departments as well as Product Managers to define and deliver new product releases. This person will lead design and analysis sessions and will be involved with coding, testing, debugging and documenting products. This person will also be responsible for developing their own team and working with other members of the management team to improve overall organizational productivity.
?BS In Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Experience, or Characteristics:
?Should have at least 8 years significant experience as a software engineer in a formal product development environment.
?Managed or supervised teams of 3-6 engineers for at least 2 years, with hiring and employee development responsibility.
?Minimum 2 years software engineering management or supervision
?Minimum 5 years combined strong server side Java and/or Ruby experience
?Must have implemented successful solutions to a wide variety of challenges in application architecture, design and coding, functionality and usability, and optimization.
Helpful / Preferred
?Preferred MS or MBA
?Effective verbal communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences. Be able to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical people. Experience presenting to external customers a plus.
?Effective writing skills for both specification development, team communication, and technical planning for complex deployments
?Extensive Knowledge of Java, Ruby, and other high level languages
?Experience in the development of large, complex web-based distributed applications
?Well versed with standard Java web application frameworks such as Spring MVC, Struts, etc.
?Interfacing with external systems via web services (SOAP, REST, etc.)
?Experienced developing project plans and managing teams to deliver projects
?Knowledge and understanding of multiple development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.)
?Managing teams and projects across large volumes of code
?Knowledge and understanding of continuous integration and test cycles
?Use of advanced IDEs (Eclipse, NetBeans, IntelliJ, etc.)
?Generalizing application logic, architecture, and schemas to support multiple complex application requirements
?Effective and accurate software change / enhancement estimation
?Experience implementing monitoring for large software applications
Functions and Responsibilities (?in addition to other duties as assigned)
1.Manage daily responsibilities for team of 5 to 10 software engineers
2.Work with team members to define and track quarterly goals
3.Provide expertise and advice to team members in areas of design, coding, functionality, usability, optimization, and monitoring
4.Execute performance reviews for team members
5.Work with cross functional managers to ensure on time delivery of development projects
6.Work with software team members to define career goals
7.Define skill sets and skill levels required by team members to perform positional duties
8.Track team member skill levels
9.Develop training plans for team members
10.Coach and develop team members to ensure adequate level of competency
11.Define best practices for software engineers on team
12.Effectively communicate with Product Directors, Account Managers, Account Representatives, Operations Support Personnel regarding development projects
13.Effectively track and communicate project status, risks / issues, and general project information with Director of Application Development
14.Effectively manage software engineering resources across multiple projects based on priorities and deadlines
15.Serve as high tier production support escalation person
16.Coordinate resolution of technical issues across the software development team in consultation with key stakeholders (both internal and external)
