Software Engineer: MarCom Etsy
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Do you like your beards ironic? Were your shorts once a pair of jeans? Do you play a lute or an accordion or something? If you answered ?yes? to any of these, you should consider a career as a Software Engineer here at Etsy!
To fit in with the rest of Etsy?s engineering culture, the MarCom team has taken a non-traditional approach to our work. Over the last few months we built our own email platform, email editing tool, content curation platform and many user facing products that have changed how people perceive and use Etsy. We are now in a phase of experimenting with new products to help Etsy grow and refactoring some of the more shameful by-products of rapid change.
Aside from a pair of knitting needles, you should also have:
At least 5 years experience in either web or email. This experience should include at least a couple of really spectacular screw ups.
A habit of writing tests.
The ability to explain the pros and cons of static methods.
A comfort living without testers and deep specifications - we?ll trust you.
Bonus points if you can tell us a story about an email delivery failure.
We want you to improve the products you work on, the people you work with, and the wider community. With this in mind, you should be able to explain complex problems to engineers less experienced than yourself, empathize with our users, and spend many hours of your free time trying out new technologies or building your own products.
So jump on your fixie and join us! Or, you know, fill in a form.
Etsy is the marketplace we make together. We have 25 million members in 200 countries. In 2012, our sellers grossed more than $895 million in sales. Our mission is to reimagine commerce to build a more fulfilling and lasting world.
Our offices are like this http://www.avc.com/avc/2010/09/the-office-matters.html and this http://www.officesnapshots.com/2010/10/11/etsy-offices/. We're empowered and expected to be ourselves, share our ideas and figure out what we can each do to keep Etsy evolving. We have full company-paid benefits, including family and domestic partner benefits, humane working hours, couches, quiet spaces, lunch twice a week and handmade desks.
We're growing rapidly and are well-funded with a proven business model and established revenue to help us continue serving our community.
If you're interested in joining the team at Etsy, please send a cover letter along with your resume telling us what inspires you about Etsy and why you think you are perfect for the team. If you contribute to an open source project, write a blog, or practice another craft besides coding, that means something to us, and we would love to hear about it when you write!
