Software Engineer - Query Processing Greenplum

The query engine is a key component of Greenplum Database responsible for high-performance query processing, parallel and distributed execution of advanced data processing algorithms, and resource management. Massive parallelism, scale, and data volumes pose hard technical challenges that require creative and unusual solutions.

Responsibilities:

• participate in the design and development of a state-of-the-art query processor framework
• own the design process, implementation, and verification of framework components leveraging standard software engineering methodologies
• maintain and improve existing query processor components
• analyze latest developments in CPU design and programming technology that lets us tap into the potential of new hardware trends

Requirements:

• a passion for building great software
• strong knowledge of database internals and implementation, preferably query processing
• extensive experience in developing high-performance software for modern CPU designs
• in-depth understanding of performance-relevant hardware aspects
• good working knowledge of PostgreSQL query execution internals
• strong system development skills
• PhD in CS with specialization in databases, or equivalent
• expert-level coding skills in C/C++
• team player; capable of conducting independent research
• result-driven, self-motivated, self-starter
• not afraid to take on hard technical challenges
• excellent communication skills

Experience in any of the following fields is a definite plus:

• query processing technology
• distributed systems
• parallel programming paradigms and platforms
• enterprise software development
