About the Security and Defensive Systems Team

This is an interdisciplinary group involving security policy, network operations, fraud analysis, operations, and software engineering with strong involvement from QA and IT. It's our job to keep Etsy and it's members safe.

About the Position

This is hands-on getting dirty software engineering position. Some of the many projects you'll be working on include:

Enhancing our current authentication system
Password validation rules and blacklists
OAuth, XAuth, and friends
Mobile Authentication
Internal authentication and LDAP
CAPCHA and other Challenge / Response Systems
One-time-use tokens
Exposing sign-in history to members
Writing, maintaining,cryptographic libraries and helping others to use it.
CSRF Tokens, monitoring and metrics.
Random number generation
Key Management
Automatic argument validation

A large portion of the job will involve documentation, testing, and monitoring, as well as helping the rest of the organization use your tools and libraries effectively. Depending on your interests this position could turn into managing a team, or working more on analytics.


About You

Hey, either the stuff above excites or not. You are the former (but if you are the latter, we have plenty of other jobs for you too.) You should have experience with cryptographic primitives and know web application security basics. Software quality and unit testing excites you (ok "excites" might be a bit much). Programming languages? Yes you should know them. We love people from all backgrounds. While most of the work is not in C/C++, you'll get bonus points if you some of that under your belt. More bonus points if you have a blog or have some publicly accessible code.
