ABOUT THE POSITION
Brightcove is looking for a software engineer who loves crafting highly scalable systems with a focus on security applications. You will be building systems using technologies like Clojure, Java, oAuth2.0, and Cassandra. You should be comfortable with building and owning the entire application stack from top to bottom, and enjoy building software in an Agile and iterative fashion. You like interacting directly with developers, system engineers to review your design and implementation. You welcome changing requirements, even late in development because you believe creating the best software is a competitive advantage.
Brightcove is full of professionals who love their craft. We try new things that sometimes fail :-(. We use an agile process that ensures the features we build will delight our customers *and* that we're usually home in time for dinner. Our systems scale to billions of transactions a month, so we have some tough problems to solve. And we are always shipping code -- even several times a day.
ABOUT YOU
♥ code? Good! You'll write some every day. You've probably studied Computer Science to some end and have been programming professionally for a few years. You should be comfortable discussing software architecture for the dreamy features you'll propose and be able to implement them cleanly. You like to solve problems for big systems and have got experience working on the highly scalability SaaS application stack. You may or may not have worked in the application security and authorization domain but you are at least interested in solving problems in this area. You're not a sysadmin but you know more than enough to be dangerous. Your ability to contribute to a technical discussion mirrors your ability to listen and learn from your peers.
A few words on our development process: It is designed to be the bumper to our bowling lane. It's lightweight and used to provide you maximum flexibility to get things implemented while making sure it's done correctly. You'll review code and have your code reviewed. You'll look on with pride as your tests execute with each commit ensuring code correctness, application stability, performance and robustness. You'll interact with other teams as you work within the existing Brightcove infrastructure ensuring a smooth and seamless experience for our end users. Most importantly, you'll provide a fresh outlook on features and project direction and will actively contribute to all aspects of delivering a great product.

We use some pretty cool stuff in a lot of different ways. For this team, functional languages like Clojure are the main tool these days. There'll be some Java, Ruby, or Groovy code flowing from your fingertips when the shoe fits. You probably will run into a lot of other tools such as Cassandra, MongoDB, MySQL, etc.
Things change, technologies come and go. You're passionate about staying up-to-date on the latest and greatest technologies and applying them appropriately to our projects. Don't worry, what you don't know you'll learn with a little help here and there.
