As an intern at WhitePages you should be prepared to work as a key member of the team you are on, with full responsibility for milestones, deadlines and feature releases alongside your sprint team. You will get to see the full software development life cycle at work, participating in design, development and testing from start to finish. While most of our interns take on either a front end focused or back end focused project, many times you will have the opportunity to work on the UI, the database and everything in between. Well treat you as any other member of the team, and you will be expected to work as hard as the rest of us. In return, well give you one-on-one mentorship and coaching, and help you learn everything you possibly can during your internship. And, we hope to learn from you, too

You qualify for a WhitePages internship if

You have completed at least two years of Computer Science courses;

You are passionate about learning, want to work hard as part of a small team, and want to participate in developing software that follows engineering best practices;

You have a basic understanding of the software development life cycle;

You can show us that you can write clean code that works;

You have a working knowledge of at least one of: Ruby, Java, Python, Perl, C/C++/C;

You have a familiarity with one or more web development frameworks;

You have some experience working with OO development methodologies; and,

You have some basic knowledge of and practical experience with CSS, HTML/XHTML, JavaScript and/or ActionScipt OR some basic knowledge of and practical experience with database development using Postgres, MySQL and/or Oracle.

You get bonus points if

You have experience developing in a UNIX or Linux environment; and/or,

You have an understanding of one or more areas of relevance: search engine design, people search, distributed computing, database optimization, artificial intelligence, machine learning, messaging, social networking, mobile applications or web design.
