Summary:
This position is for a software engineer / developer to design high-performance, scalable architectures, and writing applications in Java, JavaScript, Ajax, and/or C++.
The software engineer will assist in the design and coding of software product components, units and modules according to contract specifications. They could participate in the analysis and development of test plans and test assigned components and units. The software engineer, if testing, will be required to provide test results and recommendation for corrections to senior developers.
Qualification Requirements:
Education:
BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related scientific or technical discipline.
Experience:
Five or more years experience in software development efforts.
Or equivalent:
High School/GED and 9 years
Associate?s Degree and 7 years
Master?s Degree and 3 years
Doctorate Degree and 1 year
Experience:
Mid-to-Senior Level Developer/Software Engineer with 3-5 years experience working as a developer/software engineer designing high-performance, scalable architectures, and writing applications in Java, JavaScript, Ajax, and/or C++.
Skills:
Software Language Experience could include knowledge of:
C, C++, Java, .NET, Python, BEA WebLogic, WebSphere, J2EE, JBoss, ADO, Perl, HTML, JSP, JavaScript, Web services, SOAP, XML, ASP, JSP, PHP, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, UNIX, Linux, Redhat Linux, STL, XSLT, OWL, AJAX, J2EE, J2ME, J2SE, Sun Solaris
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication skills
Able to work independently and in a team environment
Licensures, Certifications:
Certification might be required, depending on program requirements
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
REQUIRED:
Within the last three (3) years, at least two (2) years experience programming in Java, Javascript, Ajax, and/or C++.
Within the last three (3) years, at least two (2) years working in a Linux environment.
Within the last three (3) years, at least two (2) years experience integrating diverse software components from multiple sources, including open source and researcher developed modules.
At least two (2) years experience with visualization techniques and tools and web interfaces.
Demonstrated experience with converting and handling multilingual encodings, specifically UTF-8.
Desired:
Within the last three (3) years, demonstrated experience supporting a project using standard relational and object-oriented modeling and constraint languages.
Demonstrated experience developing, designing, coding, testing, and debugging with JBoss, Eclipse, and/or Subversion.
Demonstrated experience developing, designing, coding, testing, and debugging with Prolog, SQL (Search and Query Language), Perl, and/or Python.
Demonstrated experience applying ontologies to NLP applications.
Analyzes functional business applications and design specifications for functional activities.
Develops codes, tests, and debugs new software or enhancements to existing software.
Performs maintenance on existing software products and contributes knowledge of business applications. Writes programs according to specifications needed.
Works with the technical staff to understand problems had with software and then resolve them.
Resolves customer complaints with the software and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
Develops block diagrams and logic flow charts.
Prepares required documentation.
Provides technical direction to programmers to ensure program deadlines are met.

Physical Demands:
Sitting in front of a computer on a daily basis
Working Conditions:
15 ? 20 mile travel between Columbia office and on-sight locations
Assigned tasks are usually performed at the customer site on a daily basis.
