Solutions Engineer StrongMail Systems
StrongMail is currently seeking a Solutions Engineer (SE) to join our team of experts in the US Region. We are looking for a well-rounded individual willing to assume responsibility and grow at a rapid pace.
This position incorporates traditional SE tasks and responsibilities applied to the rapidly growing field of Interactive Marketing. The SE will be responsible for articulating StrongMail?s technical benefits and differentiators to new prospects and existing customers. The SE will work directly with the field sales and client services teams.
The SE will bring a strong technical consulting background and will be responsible for running technical discovery sessions, designing standard and custom solutions, and presenting those solutions in the form of custom product demonstrations, presentations, and documentation. The solutions will include StrongMail products, StrongMail services, and custom solutions.
SE will work with customers to identify opportunities to improve their business processes, operational efficiency, and email program automation using StrongMail products and services.
Responsibilities
This position functions as a technical point of contact for Account Executives and Account Managers from the field sales and client services organizations. The Solutions Engineer is responsible for managing several sales opportunities simultaneously. Up to 30% travel required.
In addition, the Solutions Engineer will:
Engage in a rapid education process including formal training, self-study and field experience designed to position the candidate as a technical expert on all StrongMail technologies and related solutions as quickly as possible.
Respond to technical questions received via RFP and or RFI in an accurate and timely fashion.
Conduct Technical Discovery sessions directly with prospects and customers to uncover technical and marketing requirements to be addressed in presentations and demonstrations.
Prepare custom prospect/client solutions to be presented within the StrongMail Products and Services suite.
Work directly with Sales, Strategic Services, and Professional Services to collaborate on and develop the overall Solution Presentation.
Serve as the technical expert during the sales cycle.
Present StrongMail technology infrastructure, including demonstrating deep familiarity with the company's software solutions.
Present prospect solutions onsite and/or via web-conference.
Assist in the creation of technical account configuration documentation and technical statements of work.
Prepare and provide client facing technical follow-up calls and documentation.
Proactively develop internal improvement projects and ideas
Carry out self study sessions as needed to stay up to date on current technical concepts and future product enhancements.
Meet or exceed quarterly Management objectives and revenue targets.
Technical Skills
Knowledge of relational database concepts and usage (Oracle, MS SQL, Postgres, and/or MySQL) including expertise in SQL
Knowledge of Web application architecture
Knowledge of distributed computing and SaaS concepts
Problem solving, analysis, and design skills (software integration and usage)
One or more programming languages (Java highly preferred, C/C++ desirable)
Experience with Web Service APIs
Knowledge of email content, creation tools, and languages (HTML, XSL/XSLT)
Background in email software and services, messaging frameworks, and related technologies
Industry Experience
The following areas of experience will be very helpful, but candidates with other backgrounds will be considered:
eMail Marketing or other Interactive Marketing experience preferred
Web Analytics solutions a plus (Webtrends, CoreMetrics, Site Catalyst)
Email Service Providers (ESP?s)
Proven track record in technical pre-sales roles at software vendors outside of the email space
Required Business Skills
Strong pre-sales positioning skills to help the sales team win deals
Well organized and engaging presentation skills
Great written and verbal skills - the ability to engage in different levels of discussion with key customer stakeholders, executive, business, and technical
Creation of proposal and project documents using Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint that are suitable for Fortune 500 customers
Ability to manage and service multiple active projects or customers simultaneously
Collaborate and engage peers across multiple internal groups and organizations
Mentor junior team members
Relevant Experience
Pre-sales consulting or solutions engineering = 7+ years
Education
Bachelor-level degree or greater
