Specimen Processing Lead - Laboratory Supervision Oxford Immunotec

Responsible for daily supervision of processing staff during laboratory operational hours. Also oversees the pre-analytical tasks associated with the T-SPOT.TB test, assures the quality of the specimens, ensures the work area is clean and stocked with supplies.
Schedules sufficient number of processing personnel (i.e. Laboratory Assistants) to complete pre-analytical specimen processing steps.
Responsible for inspection of inventory and restocking laboratory supplies. Schedules the inspection of raw materials, and ordering and stocking of materials and equipment.
Responsible for preparation of racks with conical centrifuge and Leucosep tubes for use by technologists and technicians.
Responsible for ensuring that Leucosep tubes are filled with Ficoll Paque Plus according to established laboratory procedures and available for daily testing needs.
Trains new Laboratory Assistants on specimen processing and laboratory support activities.
Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, laws and requirements of requisite agencies by employing appropriate systems/processes.
Leads individuals and work groups to continuously improve performance by creating an environment that ensures application of quality principles and techniques to achieve desired outcomes.
Fosters an environment of excellence, sensitivity and leadership.
Participate in recruiting and selection of Laboratory Assistants and evaluating performance, delivering appraisals and performance management
Spends a significant majority of their time in the laboratory but is readily available for personnel or telephone consultation.

Bachelor?s degree in a biological, chemical, or physical science, or equivalent. Also preferred:
A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience. Experience supervising a large group (10+ employees) is preferred.
Requires compliance with strict safety protocols regarding work with reagents, laboratory equipment, and biological specimens.
Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.
Problem solving ability - able to develop creative, practical solutions that meet business objectives.
Strong project management skills ability to create, adapt and follow work plans.
Work requires familiarity with computers; specifically use of Microsoft? Windows and Microsoft Office software.
Organizational/time management; able to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
