Any engineer that has worked in a web application environment, either SaaS or internet, should understand that IT is changing. Outcome is transforming their SaaS application environment from hardware, systems/network model to an application support model which focuses on the middleware up through the application deployment and management. This role will encompass a broad scope of technology; interfacing with a broad professional services and development team in an agile programming environment. Quintiles Real-World & Late Phase Research is looking for a seasoned IT generalist to join our Production Services group to support our SaaS platform for late phase clinical trials. In this role, you will be responsible for the care and feeding of the platform when it comes to deployment of code and releases, the implementation of new environments, operations support and application troubleshooting. This is true Software as a Service platform role, with opportunities for automation, process enhancement, collaboration with engineering teams and hands-on console work.
The ideal candidate would demonstrate:
++ Familiarity with a wide variety of open source technologies and tools.
++ Coding and/or scripting skills in bash, perl or python.
++ Experience with systems and IT operations in a virtualized/cloud Linux environment.
++ Comfort with frequent, incremental code testing and deployment.
++ An understanding of build and deployment tools such as Bamboo, BuildForge and Jenkins.
++ A strong focus on business outcomes.
++ Comfort with collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders
++ 6-8 years of hands-on Linux experience and demonstrated understanding of shell programming and scripting.
++ 5 years experience working in a J2EE environment with a relational database backend. Must understand java runtime concepts such as heap memory, thread dumps, garbage collection, etc.
++ At least 2 years experience working in a customer-facing environment, either SaaS or Internet, in a 24x7x365 support role.
++ 5 years experience with enterprise monitoring setup and configuration on tools such as Orion, BlueStripe, AppDynamics and BMC.
++ Demonstrated understanding of network concepts such as routing, switching, load balancing, etc.
++ Demonstrated understanding of network applications such as DNS (bind), smtp (qmail) and http (apache).
Like to have:
++ Exposure to relational databases and SQL, preferably Oracle.
++ Exposure to noSQL database such as MongoDB
++ Exposure to JMS message middleware such as HornetQ.
++ Experience in DevOps environment utilizing configuration management tools such as Puppet or Chef is highly desired and considered a strong plus.
