The HMS Professional Services group immediately seeks a Senior Business Analyst to gather and evaluate client business requirements and to generate functional requirements. Ultimately, the Senior Business Analyst will be responsible for taking control of client initiatives, anticipating and solving business issues for stakeholders, and promoting ideas that will meet business requirements and improve end-user productivity. The Professional Services Senior Business Analyst will collaborate with Sales, Solution Development and Technical Configuration teams to specify, implement, and maintain customer data management, analytic, and compliance solutions.
The Senior Business Analyst will contribute to developing organizational process assets by creating, using, and maintaining templates, processes and guidelines for implementation and support teams to follow. The Senior Business Analyst must understand and be able to articulate data management and compliance tenets such as data quality, analysis, profiling and enrichment in scrum meetings, JAD sessions, and requirements gatherings workshops. The Senior Business Analyst will also assist in documenting and executing approved test cases in order to deploy high quality software releases, updates and data deliverables. The Senior Business Analyst must be keenly focused on initiating and following through on activities that clearly define client business requirements and must eventually be comfortable with operating with minimal direction in a highly-dynamic, client-facing, fast-paced regulated environment.
Primary responsibilities:
Work with user groups and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop project requirements
Gather and document user, functional, and non-functional/system interface requirements
Generate requirement documents that communicate data and process flows to business and technical stakeholders
Collaborate with client project teams to effect change management (from the current state to the desired future state of systems, processes and procedures) related to the implementation or support initiative
Identify, document and escalate scope change, risks and challenges related to the implementation or support initiative
Design and conduct test cases for software releases, change requests, and data deliverables.
Gather and document data interface requirements such as data imports and extracts
Capture and maintain requirements according to traditional SDLC and Agile methodologies (e.g. in a requirements document with requirement statements, process flow diagrams, and business rules or a product backlog using epics and user stories)
Operate and liaise among project teams and internal configuration and software development teams to drive accurate and consistent interpretation of requirements
Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiencies as related to implementation, support and team initiatives
Prepare solution administration, user guides, and system training materials
Work with project and program managers to define project milestones, coordinate and monitor activities
Contribute to solution strategy teams for client and market needs that would benefit HMS product/solution roadmap and direction
Work with support teams to understand specific customer issues and provide guidance and instruction on system functionality related to new solution and product releases
Other tasks that will be required:
Assist customers with user acceptance testing
Act as a liaison among business leaders, staff and technical support functions in order to drive knowledge transfer
Any other ancillary tasks assigned by the company from time to time

Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
Effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical users at all levels of an organization
Ability to learn new applications and tools (such as open source content management and collaboration tools)
Ability to work without close supervision when necessary
Proven performance in a team environment
Competency and experience with defect tracking and change control
Ability to manage and prioritize conflicting demands
Job Requirements:
BA/BS degree required (specialization in information technology or computer software design preferred)
5+ years of business analysis experience including:
Understanding usability and user-centered design practices
Standard analysis and documentation techniques (use cases, business rules, process diagrams, entity relationships, data models)
Standard requirements documentation (product backlogs: epics and user stories; business and functional requirements)
Technical writing
Open source collaboration tools and applications
Enterprise MDM or customer master solutions
2+ years experience specifying business and functional requirements for or administering a commercial customer MDM or spend transparency solution
2+ years experience performing data analysis in a relational database environment such as Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server, or MySQL
Competency with MS Office Suite including:
MS Visio for workflows and data flow diagrams
MS Access and MS Excel for data analysis, manipulation , and delivery 2+ years experience with project proposal scoping, estimation and cost/benefit analysis
Strong oral and written communication skills (interpersonal, presentation, and facilitation) Ability to navigate complex client organizational structures to find key stakeholders to participate in requirements gathering
PMI, PRINCE2, or IIBA certification a plus
Familiarity and experience with a formal business analysis or project management approach a plus (i.e. PMBOK, BABOK)
Ability to assess and prioritize customer needs and root causes to problems
Ability to structure and facilitate meetings with a variety of functional groups and stakeholders
Data analysis experience with healthcare data ? provider profiles, medical coding, script and/or outlet data
