SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Sr. Controls Engineer (Commercial Communications) shall develop, implement, document, and verify the gimbal mechanisms used for bean steering for our commercial laser free space communications product FSO (free space optical) unit. The potential candidate is an individual who is dedicated, articulate, and energetic. We are looking for a results oriented team player with positive attitude and excellent people skills. The individual should have demonstrated a strong track record in controls engineering and have prior experience delivering products from concept to manufacturing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and steering assemblies for our commercial laser free space communications product
Develop control models for the control loop that controls the steering gimbals
Identifying, allocating and managing requirements for steering mechanisms from the system level requirements
Flow down of requirements for other components used in the steering control - in particular sensors, actuators, and pivots
Verification and validation of the control system performance. This includes the overall validation plan for the system, the data collection, and analysis
Accessing performance with respect to timing requirements, jitter, stability, and other flow down requirements
Documentation of all work performed to protect AOptix intellectual properties and ensure proper quality of work
Adhering to standard work and company processes and procedures
Other responsibilities as required by company needs or management
QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS - EXPERIENCE:
M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Ph.D is a plus
6+ years of experience in steering mechanism or gimbal design
Strong DSP programming experience relating to control functionality is a plus
Prior experience with delivering a product from concept through product development to manufacturing
Industrial experience with products that need a thorough understanding of multiple disciplines including electrical, mechanical, optical, and software engineering
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: (e.g. Shift-working)
Physical demands: Ability to climb ladder up to 20ft.
Flexibility with work hours as we may have to monitor system performance during night and day
May require travel to test system performance in different geographical regions/climates.
