Sr Database Programmer International Catastrophe Insurance

Reviews, analyzes, and modifies SQL programs, applications and extract transform load processes including encoding, testing, debugging and documenting. Writes SQL programs or scripts as required for small to large scale data updates.
Proactively work with DBA with technical and administrative maintenance and design of Microsoft SQL databases. Implement data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes. Assist in the resolution of database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.
This position is responsible for development and operational support on business databases. This may include data transfers, data integrity, application support and reporting. Lead cross-training efforts within team to assure proper coverage.
Database Programming and Application Support
Consult with ICAT personnel to determine business and functional requirements and identify solutions to resolve those needs.
Write and maintain functional and technical specifications.
Provide technical support to database applications including, data conversion and data integration supporting back-end insurance processes such as claims, billing, policy printing, inspections, and reporting.
Implement data models and database designs.
Create scripts and ETL processes for data integration, data maintenance or bug fixes.
Create new prototype applications to refine requirements.
Analyze, define and document system requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, interfaces with other systems, auditing, reporting requirements and production configuration.
Analyze code for problem resolution and performance optimization.
Create test plans, test data sets and run automated testing to ensure all components of the system meet specifications.
Create flat files that meet statutory requirements.
Proactively work with DBA in the resolution of database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.
Assist with administrative maintenance of relational databases including backup/recovery, scheduling, problem diagnosis and performance tuning.
Provide technical consulting and respond to error reports, problems or questions.
Analyze, install and test commercial software for internal use. Provide technical support for third party systems integrated with the ICAT website applications.
Perform scheduled job monitoring.
Lead and promote a team environment, identify best practices and collaborate to implement across various systems.
Lead DBAs and developers to follow published best practice standards for coding/development.
Provide direction to team members regarding operational work.
Participate in QA and Production release teams.
Cross-train team. Work with manager to designate primary/backup for each function.
Create and distribute MSSQL monitoring reports as required.
Write SQL code as required to support business operations, reporting and database management.
Assist Business Information Systems team as needed with functions including:

? Document Issuance
? Application Support
Support other departments with their database server environment and architecture.
Assist with ad-hoc requests.
Other duties as assigned.
Works under the general supervision of the Data and Reporting Manager. This position does not supervise other personnel.

At least eight years of experience with relational databases and writing/maintaining SQL code, preferably Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server. Primary focus on complex SQL in PL-SQL or Transact-SQL.
At least six years experience in a production environment with responsibility for the timely production of business processes and output.
At least six years of experience using a change management system such as VSS, StarTeam or Perforce.
At least three year experience with structured programming techniques and formal application development processes.
Three years of experience in application development with Cold Fusion, ASP or VB preferred.
P&C Insurance knowledge, ISO Statutory and/or State DOI reporting experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to proactively address issues, streamlining processes where possible.
Demonstrated ability to develop formal application specifications and project plans using common documentation tools such as Visio, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Project.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot stored procedures by reviewing code, isolating any issues, suggest corrections and/or enhancements using proper change control methodologies.
Bachelor?s degree in Information Systems or related field, or equivalent experience.
