Volusion is looking to add someone who will combine their Java Development and Solr Lucene Search implementation expertise. The role will also involve configuration for new development and enhancements, as well as the operational support of the Solr production environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Search technology domain expertise with an emphasis on Solr/Lucene.
Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise on search capabilities including search engine tuning with various search strategies for in-house data sets.
Provide architectural guidance for Search Engine infrastructure.
Hands on experience in implementing search based solutions.
Ability to create Proof of Concepts applications for the purpose of testing search engine features and relevancy.
Installation and configuration of various search engines.
Experience with crawling and Indexing of various data sources including web, databases, and content management systems (CMS).
Ability to automate search processes including the bulk indexing of largescale data sets acquired from databases or unindexed systems.
Web Analytics experience emphasizing the tracking and analysis of search trends.
Web Service development experience with SOAP and REST protocols.
Performance testing experience using tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner.
Produce monitoring tools and reporting of data indexed through search and query processes
Perform upgrades to application
Engineer and execute quality checks of datasets produced with indexed data
Engineer new search processes for various dataset as needed
Document engineering design, implementation processes, and operational support guides
Solr/Lucene Specific skills:
Expertise configuring multiple Solr cores under a Linux environment.
Configuration of backup indexes for failover.
Defining Solr index schemas for various data elements, and configuration of the same for various priorities.
Expertise configuring incremental database crawls for processing add, update, and delete events.
Experience with Solr?s builtin database indexing features.
Experience configuring the Solr noise filter, acronyms, etc. features.
Scheduling periodic refresh of Solr indexes using cron jobs.
Configure and managing authentication and ACL access.
Experience writing Solr queries against various data sources such as SQL Server, MySQL and MongoDB.
Experience with the Solr guided search features: faceted searches, boost and block queries, query filters.
Dynamic ranking of search result using DisMax and similar query engines.
Load balancing and integrating multicore searches.
Expertise indexing binary content such as Word, Excel, and PDF content.
Solrj API programming experience for querying/feeding/administration.
Document processing and metadata extraction using OpenPipeline and Apache Tika.
Experience using Nutch 2.0 and Solr 4.0 a plus.
Experience using custom connectors with Solr a plus.
2 + years experience working with Solr (Apache Lucene).
3 years of experience on its complimentary components (HTML, XML, Java, J2EE, Java application servers).
2 year of experience in base infrastructure dependencies (CentOS administration, clustering, Perl, Java, shell scripting).
1 year of experience in data analytics, algorithms, and large data structures.
1 year of architectural design knowledge, and resource planning for scaling SOLR/Lucene infrastructure capabilities.
1 year of experience working on Scrum or other Agile development based methodologies.
1 year of experience using TFS/SVN / Git / CVS for version control
Experience with standard SQL a plus.
