Job Description
JOB OBJECTIVES: Responsible for the multi-site operations and manufacturing functions for Promega instruments. This role an experienced leader in manufacturing operations, hardware and software, with a preference for a person from the life sciences industry or diagnostics, where there has been a consumable component. Sets operations, manufacturing, and supply chain strategy to ensure attainment of financial and strategic goals, translating strategy into tactics, priorities and resource requirements.
REPORTING: This position reports to the Director of Operations, Integrated Solutions
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provides technical and managerial leadership in manufacturing operations, manufacturing engineering, procurement, and logistics for our instrument business.
Develops and encourages best practices for operational excellence and continuous improvement within the manufacturing function and with all cross functional interfaces -measuring and driving performance of manufacturing-based KPI?s.
Ensures that standards for product quality, manufacturing costs and throughput, equipment and operator performance, employee safety and housekeeping standards are maintained and that cost-effective technology is used to maximize efficiency.
Facilitates decision-making, resolves conflicts and builds/optimizes cross-functional team efforts to assure that all manufacturing and corporate objectives are met.
Oversees planning, execution and compliance of the operations budget including expense, capital and inventory budgets.
Maintains ongoing analysis of key issues, projects, and objectives, and provide regular reports that include metrics to summarize the status and trends of key operational parameters.
Reviews needs and provide training opportunities for staff to develop personal job-related skills and to improve operational flexibility in accordance with strategic needs.
Aggressively looks for areas of manufacturing process improvement, which may include additional capital investment, process improvements, or staffing changes.
Works actively on gross margin improvement through annually planned COGS reduction.
Actively fosters an environment of continuous improvement among all employees.
Ensures fixed assets and facilities are preserved using best maintenance practices and initiates recommendations on purchases of new equipment and improvements to plant property.
Develops departmental goals that support the strategic goals of Operations and the entire company
Works to improve inventory levels. Plans and executes working capital improvement programs.
Ensures compliance with applicable quality management system.
Ensures compliance with state and federal environmental and safety regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
Special projects as assigned.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science in life sciences or a technical field such as engineering.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive operations management experience. Experience should include management of diverse staff, including technical professionals and front line employees.
Minimum 10 years project management experience in a technical area including hardware and software within a cross-functional team environment.
International professional experience. Must have excellent communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with a cultural bias that reflects the values of Promega worldwide.
Proven manufacturing process engineering expertise.
Expertise in gated process life cycle management.
Quality Management Systems expertise (such as TQM, Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma).
Proficient in MS Office and ERP systems.
Experience working in a regulated environment including ISO9001, ISO13485, and/or 21 CFR Part 820.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience manufacturing instruments for the life science industry.
Experience manufacturing medical devices.
Experience manufacturing products with a consumable component.
Experience managing overseas organizations.
Experience with SAP.
Strong organizational and communication skills and a demonstrated ability and desire to share experience and knowledge with staff.
Integrated view of the technical, financial and quality aspects of the areas of responsibility.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform inspections of equipment and operations for cleanliness and safety.
Must have the ability to use computer equipment.
Ability to travel including international travel.
