Magnum is currently seeking a talented Senior Firmware Engineer to join our team in Milpitas, CA . You will work with a small group of engineers to architect and develop video codec algorithms on Magnum Semiconductor's next generation media processor. Key applications include Magnum's industry-leading Professional multi-format video encoder, decoder and transcoder platforms. You will be involved in the implementation of designs for leading professional video equipment manufacturers. The group develops CODEC firmware and device drivers for a highly optimized and proprietary multi-CPU media processor. The group also develops highly optimized video firmware to produce products with the highest video quality and video density. Finally the group works on pre-silicon modeling and architecture as well as encode/transcode/display quality tuning. The group interacts daily with VLSI and Systems teams on a variety of topics including architecture, modeling, and various levels of debugging/verification. You will also be responsible for co-coordinating certain project activities within the group, and will have ownership of specific firmware design areas.
Primary Responsibilities:
Design, development and support of current and new firmware projects for customer platforms as well as reference systems.
Design, modify, develop, write and implement video codec firmware for multimedia applications.
Develop real-time multithreaded embedded systems and develop core firmware and services for high-performance multimedia hardware.
Qualifications:
MS or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or BS and 5+ years codec developer experience
Expertise in one or more video compression standards: H.264, MPEG-2, VC-1
DSP implementation and optimization experience preferred
Working knowledge of various video broadcast standards ( ATSC, DVB , NTSC, PAL)
Solid real-time embedded firmware and software design
Experience with device drivers, consumer electronics, broadcast video
Extensive C programming experience required
Knowledge of real-time operating systems (VxWorks, embedded Linux/Unix)
Capability of taking on responsibility for a substantial portion of a project
Strong analysis, design and debug skills
Independent work ethic to bring tasks to completion
OOA/OOD is a plus
