Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer Digital Signal

DSC is rapidly growing and we have an opening for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in our Chantilly, VA location. Qualified candidates must be able to work well in a small company atmosphere and have excellent communication skills.
Position Summary:
The role of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer involves leading the mechanical and opto-mechanical engineering efforts on DSC multidiscipline, infrared component and system level development teams in a small company atmosphere. The Senior Mechanical Engineer reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and interfaces with other disciplines throughout the company to ensure that product designs meet both engineering and production milestones.
Essential Job Functions:
Oversee the mechanical development of new designs, improvement of existing designs, and transition of current and future designs into production
Interface with optics, electronics and manufacturing groups to create opto-mechanical, electro-optic and electronic assembly designs
Product design and modeling, material selection, creation of engineering drawings and problem solving
Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers
Essential Qualifications:
BS in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years experience in a related mechanical design field
Electronics packaging experience
Must be a motivated, self-starter
Ability to work in a team environment
Must have excellent working experience and proficiency using SolidWorks (2010 or higher) to design and develop products
Experience with design for manufacturing, cost, test, and assembly
Must be able to communicate well, both in verbal presentations and written documentation
Basic working knowledge and understanding of drafting principles, working knowledge of ASME Y14.5M-1982 and ASME Y14.5-1994
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite of tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Candidate must meet eligibility requirements for a security clearance by the U.S. Government within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
Desired Qualifications:
Masters degree in a related field
Familiarity with infrared imaging systems Multiple discipline experience (Electronics, Software, Optics or others), from requirements development through concept and detailed design
Design for mass production
Team leadership experience
Experience leading and mentoring less experienced engineers
Structural and thermal analysis and modeling experience
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing experience
Windchill experience

Ability to frequently sit, reach within hands and arms length, climb or balance and crouch. Ability to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, etc
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and use of computer monitor screens a great deal of time.
