Nanosys is looking for an accomplished chemical engineer for automating and scaling up its solution-phase nanocrystal synthesis process from research scale to lab scale to pilot scale. These novel nanomaterials are designed to be used in the front-end processing at top-tier semiconductor companies. The successful candidate will be fully conversant in process and reactor design as it applies to scale up of chemical reactions, including equipment selection, project management and process automation. The engineer will interact with a team of scientists and is expected to transfer the synthetic process smoothly and swiftly to a semi- or fully automated reactor systems. The person should independently be able to think, analyze, design and control scale-ups to meet the volume demand for our nanomaterials. The candidate is also expected to (a) improve & optimize the process steps; and (b) establish process monitors & controls to produce nanomaterials of the highest quality on a consistent basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of chemical synthesis, process scale up, heat and mass transfer, reactor design and equipment selection, process improvements & optimization, automation, and statistical process control.
Hands-on; able to think and operate independently with minimal supervision; able to work efficiently and productively and adhere to strict EH&S rules and regulations.
Experience in dealing with nanomaterials and/or scaling up of electronic grade or other high purity chemicals is highly desired.
Must have strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
Education, Experience and Certifications:
Masters or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in scale up. BS Chemical Engineer with extensive experience will also be considered.
