As User Experience Product Manager, you will bring together the core products of the Avalara business, namely Calc, Returns and Certs as a single coherent experience in our Administration Console application. You will drive the development of new user onboarding, payments, auditing, reporting and upsell. You will build solutions from existing ideas, and help to develop new ideas based on your industry experience and your contact with existing and prospective customers and partners. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time in the market to understand real-world problems, and work closely with an engineering team to find innovative solutions for the broader market.
You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You must be able to formulate complete, credible business plans for presentation to executives for funding approval. You will work with an engineering counterpart to define product release requirements and provide ongoing guidance to the engineering team throughout the development process. You will work with marketing to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer. You will work with the Project Management Office (PMO), Technical Operations, Customer Support, Finance and other internal departments to drive the internal rollout of new product releases. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for your product offering, occasionally working with the sales channel and key customers.
Managing the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
Defining and communicating the product strategy and roadmap
Delivering MRDs and PRDs with prioritized features and corresponding justification
Driving a solution set across teams (primarily Business Analysis, Development, QA and Marketing) through product development lifecycle requirements planning, functional/visual definition, product contract, positioning and internal/external launch
Developing and implementing a company-wide internal product rollout plan, working with all departments to execute
Analyzing potential partner relationships and licensing opportunities for the product
Running beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples
Being an expert with respect to the competition
Acting as a leader within the company
Experience and Skills:
Minimum of 7 years Product Management experience
Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products
5+ years of software industry experience (ERP software and/or SaaS solution a plus)
Experience with User-Centered Design principles
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred)
Excellent teamwork skills
Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
Must be able to travel 25% of the time
Examples and at least one sample of an effective document delivered in the past
