Demand Media is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to develop innovative solutions to add automation to and streamline our data center and IT operations. You will play a critical role supporting Demand Media's portfolio of media sites, including eHow, Cracked, and LiveSTRONG, as well as the world's 2nd largest ICANN accredited domain registrar, Enom. Our large infrastructure consists of thousands of bare metal and virtual machines across numerous data centers. Engineering automation into various business unit workflows is a key component to Demand Media's ability to quickly develop and deploy products to our customers. Responsibilities:
- Be customer focused first. Work with customers throughout the organization to help define features
- Operate within a small team in an agile environment to design and develop systems that scale
- Improve the efficiency and functionality of existing software solutions
- Research new technologies and incorporate them into new and existing systems and products
- Create extremely easy to use, customer focused web interfaces that hide complex back end systems and logic
Requirements:
- A passion for helping others and ensuring customer satisfaction
- Ability to develop and implement solutions as a group
- 5 years of professional software development experience
- 5 years of experience with Python
- Experience with Distributed Systems
- Proficiency working with SQL databases
- BS degree in Computer Science, related field, or relevant experience
Pluses:
- Adept with perl/shell scripting
- Basic *NIX and Windows administration experience
- Functional knowledge of web UI technologies including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Ajax, and jQuery
- Knowledge of additional programming languages including JAva, PHP or C#
- Experience developing high-performance, high-scale Software-as-a-Service
- Experience with NoSQL databases
