Sr R&D Polymer Engineer (#12-8047) AccessClosure
SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for primarily self-directed work in developing hydrogel/polymer formulations, fabrication techniques and processes and for transferring these processes into manufacturing by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned on an individual basis:
Complete projects as assigned with minimal direction.
Perform experiments, including but not limited to, DOEs to characterize and improve processes
Provide leadership and direction to more junior engineers in areas of process/product development
Independently seek out and initiate projects that are consistent with attainment of corporate objectives.
Work closely with Manufacturing to capture and interpret design intent in order to refine and improve products and processes
Initiate the design, critical evaluation, and development of new concepts.
Interact with Marketing to understand product requirements.
Support evaluation of new designs, polymer formulations and processes in in-vitro and in-vivo evaluations.
Conduct in vitro/bench tests and prepare reports with an emphasis on the analysis and interpretation of the resulting test data.
Document relevant information to lab notebooks or if required release controlled documentation according to good laboratory practices or company procedure
Lead polymer projects through the product development process.
Initiate and perform verification and validation testing of new polymers, hydrogel processes and products.
Perform process development and process qualification activities as required for new product or process development.
Qualify and develop processes on new hydrogel processing equipment.
Assist Manufacturing and QA in the development of process, assembly, test and inspection procedures
Facilitate excellent communication between all team members
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
BS in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry or equivalent experience
Minimum 5 years of related experience Or MS in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry with minimum of 3 years of related experience or PhD in Chemical Engineering , Chemistry with minimum of 0-2 years of related experience
Knowledge of polymeric materials and polymer processing (polymers, metals, chemicals) as related to medical devices
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills, effective interaction with R&D management and other cross-functional departments
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May have supervisory responsibilities for technicians or more junior engineers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work includes potential exposure to human bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.
Work includes potential exposure to radiation sources such as fluoroscope in a catheter laboratory setting.
Work includes potential exposure to chemicals.
