Marrone Bio Innovations is a venture capital-backed company in Davis, California, discovering, and developing biopesticides for unmet pest and weed management needs in organic and conventional farming and in water systems. MBI discovers, develops, and markets cutting edge technologies of natural products for pest, weed, disease and invasive species control.
We are looking for a Plant Physiologist with a strong background in Weed Sciences, Pesticides and Biochemistry to join our energetic team based in our Davis, CA laboratory. He/she will develop innovative strategies in plant health and weed management for agriculture and aquatic systems to investigate the efficacy of unique microbial and plant pesticide extracts.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Plan, execute and evaluate innovative research projects in the areas of plant health and weed control for agricultural and aquatic systems.
Develop and conduct lab and plant bioassays that evaluate and measure the efficacy, mode-of-action and phytotoxicity of biological compounds
Develop criteria to evaluate plant responses to nutrients and herbicides
Conduct in depth literature reviews that support new research proposals
Initiate new projects and present these ideas to management
Document, evaluate and communicate research findings to management, colleagues and customers
Stay current with literature, maintain academic contacts and keep MBI abreast of new findings, strategies and technologies

Conduct regular performance evaluations
Assist in hiring of new personnel
Contribute to operating budget planning and review
Make recommendations and purchase capital equipment
Order supplies and equipment as needed
Qualifications and Characteristics
The successful candidate must be able to legally work in the US.
An M.S. plus 10 years experience or a Ph.D. plus 2 years experience in the areas of Plant Physiology or Weed sciences with knowledge and experience with pesticides, plant toxins and / or nutrients is required.
Good computer, graphics and statistical analysis skills are essential.
The candidate is expected to have good organizational and record keeping skills, the ability to work effectively in a multi-project team environment and to collaborate with colleagues to achieve goals.
Industry research experience is desirable.

The salary range is competitive.
