Located in the Davis, CA. facility, the primary responsibility of the Sr. Scientist will be to actively
participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop microbial based biologicals. This role is responsible for
design and executing of fermentation experiments and for process scale up from flasks to pilot and
production scales.
The incumbent will be responsible for the following:
? Designs, plans and conducts fermentation experiments at flask, 10?20L, and 200L scales to gain
understanding on the impact of fermentation on the production, activity and stability of active
ingredients.
? Applying the latest knowledge of microbial physiology, secondary metabolism and biosynthetic
pathways to media design, process optimization and strain improvement.
? Providing of highly active materials through fermentation for downstream formulation, bioassay,
and field trials.
? Responsible for data collection and analysis, writing of SOPs, technical reports and documentations
for internal presentations/interpretations and for regulatory support
? Collaboration with other scientists, engineers, and technicians in fermentation and formulation
process development.
? Participation in the process transfer and scale?up at pilot plants and manufacturing sites.
? Keeping up-to-date with current literature and the state of the art microbial physiology and
fermentation science and potential applications to the company?s projects
? Some travel will be required.
Desired Skills & Experience
The selected candidate is required to possess the following:
? Ph.D. in microbiology, chemical engineering or related science
? A minimum of 2-6 years of in depth knowledge of microbial fermentation and physiology, microbial
secondary metabolites production is highly desirable, strong background in fermentation science or
fermentation engineering/operation at form lab to production scale
? Hands-on experience in fermentation and downstream processing equipment
? Experience in statistical design of experiments related to fermentation media optimization and
process improvement? Working knowledge of standard analytical, biological and wet chemistry laboratory equipment and
molecular techniques required
? Experience in industrial strain improvement preferred,
Salary and Grade Level will be commensurate with experience and/or education level.
