THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED
Full Stack Software Engineer for Internationalization
We are doing something that no one has ever done before. We are bringing our entire global user base under a single, unified marketplace. That?s right! Etsy is going global and we stellar LAMP engineers to internationalize the entire site! We're looking for full-stack developers to help make people fall in love with shopping on Etsy, no matter the language they speak. ?
About the Challenges? ?
We, at Etsy, have a problem - finding great things to buy can be crazy difficult. It's frustrating. There are so many beautiful, unique items in our marketplace, but they're like buried treasure. We know it can be better. However, the upside of this is huge. There is so much to do, so many aspects of the experience we can improve. There's a lot of room to play around. We're going to be building tons of new stuff. Not only is there an incredible opportunity for great work to get done, but if we succeed, the world will suck a lot less. People will come to Etsy and not get frustrated with what they can't find; instead, they'll be delighted with what they do find. Not only that, making our marketplace more pleasurable to use really ends up helping the folks who sell their wares on Etsy. If we do our job right, the huge group of craftspeople and artisans who sell on Etsy will benefit. That's pretty inspiring. ?
About the Position?
?
We are looking for full-stack engineers with experience in programming for internationalization (i18n) and localization (L10n) and knowledge of foreign markets and cultures. You'll be dealing with the full stack, including MySQL, Memcache, PHP, and front-end stuff (HTML/CSS/JS) and reaching users from all around the globe! ?Because we're making user-facing features, we believe strongly in collecting and analyzing numerical data to help guide our decisions. To that end, you'll be able to use our in-house analytics tools to gather information and gain insight. You'll also be able to use Etsy's Continuous Deployment architecture to push code to production whenever you please (and you'll probably push on your first day here).
About You? ?
If this all sounds exciting to you; you should come work with us. Here are some statements that should apply to you:
You have experience in programming for i18n, m17n and L10n
You know that Unicode has nothing to do with coding for unicorns
You are fluent in 1 or 2 other languages in addition to English
You have spent time in foreign lands and have a deep understanding of their cultures and markets
You also have strong opinions about international markets and aren?t shy about sharing them
You feel at home with the LAMP stack and can dive into the server side or UI with out flinching
You are fearless when it comes to releasing code
You like to challenge the norm and are bored with the status quo
You turn ideas into extremely fast and reliable code that other people ? or you, six months in the future ? will find wonderfully easy to comprehend and modify
You like music
You take great pleasure in creation, momentum, chaos, vibrancy, spontaneity, debate, and silence.
You feel comfortable doing things, even when no one is telling you exactly what to do
If this sounds good, seriously, get in touch. We want craftspeople and artisans from around the world to benefit from Etsy and we?d love to hear your ideas on how to make that happen.
