Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled senior-level database administrator with five+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience and a working knowledge of Oracle databases. The ability to work well under pressure and to multi-task are prerequisites for this role; this position is full-time and requires flexible shift work. This position is based in our Seattle, WA location.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide 24X7 database administration for all production databases and supporting software (primarily SQL Server)
Monitor disk space, ensure availability and provide performance tuning for all production databases
Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime (SQL Server)
Provide preventative maintenance on all databases to include rollout and upgrades
Create and/or customize complex database monitoring application systems
Provide critical decision-making and problem resolution in emergent situations
Ensure proper technical design and documentation
Recommend process and development methodology improvements
Provide assistance to engineering teams on new products/systems
Provide regular management updates of technical issues and their impact to the organization
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Experience as SQL Server DBA in a 24X7 production environment over multiple recent years to include monitoring, metrics generation and logging, and on-call rotation schedule
Ability to troubleshoot & analyze problems by type and severity, understanding complex relationships between various infrastructure components and to resolve production issues independently
Extensive experience with high-volume OLTP database systems including database support software and procedures
Expert knowledge of data retention and recovery practices for SQL Server
Strong knowledge of data warehouse architecture and concepts and experience with high volume data analytics
Past experience with compliance audits and security management
Expert understanding of SQL Server database administration best practices across an organization
Participation in multiple SQL Server projects requiring interaction with Operations and Engineering teams
Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities with strong attention to detail, process and quality
Experienced in dependency analysis and creating process documentation with the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders & vendors
Past experience providing support to a customer-facing production support team
Education / Experience:
Requires a BS/BA in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
Experienced in SQL Server 2008 R2
Microsoft Cluster Services and SQL Server 2008 R2
SQL Server Instance ? installation, management, backup and restoration/attachment skills with/with no TDE in place.
SQL Replication locally and remotely
SQL Server log shipping using SQL Native Tools
SQL Server day-to-day management and monitoring
Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
MSDTC, SSAS, SSRS, SSIS etc,. services management
SQL Server Audit not C2 implementation
