Summary of Responsibilities:
The Senior SQL Server Production Database Administrator is responsible for the delivery of 24x7x365 uptime of Ellie Mae?s flagship web based products and Ellie Mae hosting solutions. This position requires working closely with development team, and the server team in maintaining a reliable environment around systems hardware and operating systems server software.
Primary Responsibilities & Objectives:
Monitor database performance in the areas of response, reliability, throughput, and availability; analyze to identify and resolve bottlenecks, and tune infrastructure to ensure stable performance for the web based as well as hosting environment.
Ensure that database backup and recovery, upgrades, maintenance, data integrity, and space requirements for physical databases supporting web and hosting applications are met through formulation and monitoring of policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management
System level DBA functions including: set up replication, administer SQL cluster/Virtual server clusters
Proactively research and locate the necessary tools and processes to identify troublesome trends as they develop, and track problems to resolution.
Analyze trends and work with development team to develop a long-range plan designed to resolve problems and prevent them from recurrence
Monitor and provide constructive feedback on all existing SQL server systems
Effectively adapt to rapidly changing technologies and apply it to business needs; marrying multiple tools together to solve problems
Follow department standards for documents and project management
Able to work extra/off hours as needs dictate.
BS in CS, Engineering, or related discipline and 8+ progressive years using SQL Server in a DBA/equivalent role, with at least 5+ yrs experience on SQL Server 2005/SQL Server 2008.
6-8 years work experience on Windows Server 2003/2008 platforms.
3+ years work experience: SQL clustering and virtual server clustering, data replication and fail-over.
3+ years work experience on Oracle production environment on UNIX platform
Experience with mission critical, 24/7 production environments required.
Strong experience/competency with: VLDB, SQL performance analysis and tuning, log shipping and security, replication, SQL clustering, fail-over to remote site, scalability, reliability issues and written stored procedures.
Installation and configuration of Microsoft SQL Server in a clustered configuration.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Solid project management skills, able to multitask and very detail oriented. .
Ability to optimize and streamline: stored procedures, indexes, data layout, and disk layout.
Team-player, flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong data warehouse/data mart/data mining experience a plus
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Familiarity with the mortgage industry a plus.
Are interested and able to quickly learn new technologies, methodologies and tools.
Can take a concept and perform implementation with minimal supervision.
Are highly motivated self-starters comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
