The Information Technology Sr. System Administrator is responsible for the support of the Microsoft Windows server infrastructure and applications at Epocrates. This position has significant impact in all areas of the company ensuring that mission critical production services and applications are provided in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with our service level objectives.
Daily activities will be driven primarily by Windows infrastructure and business systems application projects and requests. These activities include provisioning new servers, architecture & implementation for high availability application services, and Sarbanes Oxley compliance activities.
Position Responsibilities
- Proactive management and support of systems and applications.
- Handling complex technology assignments where personal judgment is required for problem resolution.
- Identify and initiate resolution to customer issues and concerns from users on both Windows and Linux platforms.
- Installation and implementation of server hardware and software according to department standards and procedures.
- Maintain current technical expertise in rapidly changing technology environment.
- Able to seek out new and innovative solutions to technology issues faced by our customers.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with all departments and seek out ways to improve their productivity.
- Fulfill department requirements for onsite and after-hour support coverage, including participation in on-call pager rotation schedule.
Position Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years server administration in a Microsoft environment.
- Significant hands-on experience with Windows Server 2003/2008, Active Directory, Exchange 2010, Exchange Mobile, and OWA.
- Detailed working knowledge of network fundamentals, IP addressing, routing, DHCP and DNS.
- Hands-on experience with VMware 4/5 and blade server hardware.
- Hands-on experience managing and configuring system monitoring/alerting, preferably using Nimsoft.
- Hands-on experience configuring and managing SAN/NAS hardware, preferably EMC/NetApp/Compellent.
- Experience managing Juniper SSL VPN.
- Hands-on experience administering Netbackup using backup to disk and cloud storage technologies.
- Experience managing telephony environment.
- Experience using automation tools to streamline workflows.
- Experience with cloud storage solutions and data replication.
- Experience with ITIL and ITSM solutions.
- Strong customer facing skills with the ability to interact with customers effectively by phone, email, and in person.
- Able to work well in a small, collaborative team and fast paced environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
