The Systems Engineer is directly responsible for the architecture, engineering, and support of application and system provisioning, monitoring, logging, and core network environments. Job duties include developing and maintaining existing environments, evaluating appropriate third party solutions, and documenting new initiatives and training team members on their use. The successful individual will develop and implement maintenance programs, identify operating/capital budgets and support requirements. Develop operational standards, process and procedures.
Responsible for the physical implementation, performance, integrity, security, documentation, and support of core datacenter and cloud-based virtualization environments.
Responsible for implementation and maintenance of system and application monitoring, trending, and analysis tools.
Responsible for physical implementation, performance, integrity, security, documentation, and support of core datacenter networks and cloud based private networks.
Responsible for setting up fault-tolerant environments and interfaces with other key systems.
Record keeping, documentation, and reports monitoring, performance and compliance.
Development, implementation and administration of guidelines, programs and systems within functional area.
Oversee and ensure systems and networks are maintained to established standards.
BA/BS in computer science, or equivilant experience.
8-10 years of mixed systems and network experience ; five years of experience with Cisco products and Linux based operating systems and environments.
Experience with configuration management engines such as Puppet, Chef, CFengine
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Developed problem-solving and analytical abilities
Significant experience in load balancer, firewall, router and switch configuration, management and secuirty strategies.
In-depth understanding of monitoring and logging techniques, as well as an understanding of snmp and industry standard tools for monitoring, trending, and alerting on data collected by these systems.
Experience supporting high-availability production systems and networks.
Understanding of scripting a plus.
Proven skill and commitment to building and maintaining relationships with co-workers, customers and vendors
