The Senior Systems Engineer for our Web Filter and Security Reporter product lines will be solely responsible for the architecture and maintenance of the Linux platforms and hardware for these products. This position will also be responsible for performance testing for these products as well as maintaining the Engineering network and related systems. We are looking for an expert in systems engineering, who is knowledgeable on the recent technology advances and trends, to help us move forward.
Responsibilities:
Maintain the underlying Linux platforms for the Web Filter and Security Reporter product lines ? plan and implement appropriate updates, troubleshoot issues, and make appropriate configuration changes for optimum functionality, performance, reliability and security
Run performance tests for all the concerned products, maintain performance test results, implement suitable system changes for improving performance, and provide inputs for appliance capacity planning
Run vulnerability scans for the products and make appropriate system changes to address vulnerabilities
Research available hardware choices in the market and recommend selection of hardware items for our physical appliances based on functionality, reliability, performance and price
Build and maintain master images for product installation on physical appliances
Build virtual appliances for our products and provide inputs for best practices for virtual appliance deployment
Maintain the virtual product update servers running in Amazon EC2
Maintain the Engineering network environment, including systems and ESXi hosts used for development and testing
Work with Support, Escalations and R&D to analyze complex issues with system behavior, operation and performance, and work on resolving such issues
Assist with ?production? issues related to appliances and Nexsan devices for shipping
Technical Qualifications:
The ideal candidate has 10+ years in a related role with mid to large-sized companies and has demonstrated experience in:
10+ years of overall experience in systems engineering
8+ years of strong experience in Linux (preferably CentOS) internals and Apache/Tomcat ? looking for a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in this area
5+ years of experience with MySQL deployment, administration and tuning
Expert-level knowledge of networking, network protocols and network security
Strong experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Xen)
Proficiency in hardware platform design and deep understanding of hardware requirements and issues
Scripting experience in Python or other scripting languages
Experience with SAN devices (Nexsan in particular) a definite plus
Experience using Spirent Avalanche for capacity and performance testing a plus
Work experience in a collaborative team environment using version control software (like Mercurial) and issue tracking software (like Jira)
Work experience in an Agile environment a plus
Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science or other technical discipline
General skills:
Self-starter with ability to prioritize many projects and problems independently, as they arise
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills a must
Willingness to occasionally work scheduled night/weekend times, and to participate in off-hours on-call schedule
Occasional overnight travel to other Trustwave offices, domestic and international, may be required
