The Position
The Sr. Systems Engineer position is a critical part of the technology operations team at Zoom Information. This position offers the ideal candidate a full range of IT operational experience from managing high-capacity servers and networking equipment to being involved with the latest technology platforms in the ?Big Data? arena.
Reporting to the Director of TechOps and as a member of a tight-knit team tasked with building both boxed and Open Source solutions, this position requires fluency in LINUX operating environments, experience with networking fundamentals, knowledge of backup operations, and experience with virtualization concepts.
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
5+ years Enterprise LINUX system administration with knowledge of installations, security, performance-tuning, and basic shell scripting.
Experience supporting 24x7 Internet-facing web infrastructure.
Experience with Apache, load balancing technologies and CMS systems.
Understanding of JBoss, JMS Messaging, and Solr Search a plus.
Exposure to big data platforms including Hadoop, and Cassandra.
Demonstrated application of advanced system structures and commands in LINUX environments. (TCP/IP, DNS, RAID, LVM, SMTP, Active Directory, VPN, shell scripting, etc.).
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Strong technical, organizational and nterpersonal skills working as part of a team and at times in a highly autonomous manner, mentoring others.
Understanding of clustered or pooled virtualization concepts from leading platforms such as VMware or Citrix XenServer.
Configuration management frameworks, specifically Puppet.
Shared storage experience with NFS, CIFS, NAS, Openfiler and similar technologies.
Network and systems monitoring, SNMP, Nagios etc.
Ability to be on call as needed.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications:
Experience with Cisco PIX/ASA a big plus
Network switching and F5 Big IP or similar load balancing technologies
SQL Server 2005 or newer and/or MySQL; able to run queries, basic DBA tasks
Telecom systems experience a plus
