Founded in 2009, Skybox has raised $91M from leading Silicon Valley investors, including Khosla Ventures, Bessemer Ventures, Canaan Partners, and Norwest Venture Partners. Skybox is on track to launch its first two satellites of the constellation in late 2013.
This is an opportunity to join the executive team of a company that will change an industry. We're an ambitious vertically integrated company, taking on satellite design and satellite prototyping, writing software to control a constellation of satellites from a web browser, storing and processing petabytes of imagery data, and enabling big data analysis on the images and meta data to produce insights about our world never before available. Social transparency, global climate change, humanitarian relief and global resource monitoring are just of few of the world changing applications for our products and services.
Our Sr Vice President of Data Systems will build and lead teams that design, implement and deliver systems that transform petabytes of satellite imagery data into geospatial images and derived information products. Your responsibilities include both software development and technical operations infrastructure. This position reports to the CEO.
Expand and lead a team of software and QA professionals to consistently deliver world-class software on budget and on schedule. The current exceptional team has 20 software and QA professionals and is expected to double in the next 18 months.
Expand and lead a team of systems engineers responsible for technical operations, information security and corporate IT. The current exceptional team has 10 professionals and is expected to double in the next 18 months.
Manage change and rapid growth, lead the team through the multiple stages of a growing business, manage budgets, and partner with multiple departments.
Provide technical direction, guidance, and hands-on management for development projects
Ensure the best allocation of engineering resources to projects to achieve the company's short-term and long-term goals
Balance the demands of product and marketing with the high quality technical execution
Develop, in cooperation with product management, an engineering roadmap that identifies potential areas of risk while meeting the company?s objectives
Skills and Experience:
A well balanced mix of intelligence, integrity, domain knowledge, communication skills and diplomacy that will allow you to rapidly earn the respect from the technical teams across the company
A high degree of technical competence, coupled with a passion for execution and delivery. The successful candidate will have the technical aptitude to probe, assess and understand engineering trade-offs and issues
Experience building an engineering culture of high performance and high motivation, while encouraging transparency and trust
A focus on software quality through design, review and testing
Experience and understanding of how to effectively transition from a technology start-up to a world class operating company
Desire to work with really smart people who love to solve tough problems and challenge the status quo
Familiarity with Hadoop, Linux, Mapping/Geospatial and big data a plus
BS or Masters in Computer Science or related field a plus
15+ years experience, with at least 5 years at the Director level, leading both software development and technical operations teams
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
