SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Catheter Engineering: This position is responsible for primarily self-directed work in developing and prototyping new products or processes in the R&D group and transfer into manufacturing by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned on an individual basis:
Complete projects as assigned with minimal direction
Provide a high degree of technical leadership and direction to project teams or individual engineers in the group
Represent the R&D group on technical matters of a broad nature when working with other functional groups within the organization
Independently seek out and initiate projects that are consistent with attainment of corporate objectives
Identify new opportunities for products within and outside the closure space
Initiate the design, critical evaluation, and development of new concepts
o Interact with Marketing to understand product requirements
o Support evaluation of new designs, polymer formulations and processes in in-vitro and in-vivo evaluations, as applicable
o Conduct in vitro/bench tests and prepare reports with an emphasis on the analysis and interpretation of the resulting test data
o Document relevant information to lab notebooks.Release controlled documentation as required according to good laboratory practices or company procedure
Lead projects through the product development process
Provide leadership and direction to R&D engineers and technicians
Design and perform verification and validation testing of new designs and products
Design and perform process development and process qualification activities as required for new product or process development
Assist Manufacturing and QA in the development of process, assembly, test and inspection procedures
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Catheter Engineering BS in Engineering, Materials Science or equivalent experience
Minimum 8 years of related experience
Knowledge of materials (polymers, metals, chemicals) as related to medical devices
Catheter Experience with SolidWorks and DOEs preferred
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills, effective interaction with R&D management and other cross-functional departments
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work includes potential exposure to human bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.
Work includes potential exposure to radiation sources such as fluoroscope in a catheter laboratory setting.
Work includes potential exposure to chemicals.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May have supervisory responsibilities of technicians and engineers.
