Staff Software QA Engineer/System Test Engineer Omneon, Inc.

In this position we are seeking a person with strong desire and ability to learn about highly complex systems and devices. The learning curve will be steep as we will ask you to immerse yourself in our end-to-end solution for video stream transport and processing. You will be learning about distributed systems, network management, feature rich devices, video, audio & data services, MPEG, DVB, TCP/IP, and related standards and specifications.
We are seeking a person to automate existing manual test plans and write new test procedures for the distributed network management systems and all the devices it controls. These require reading standards and engineering design documents, deriving the test plans from them, and writing the applicable test tools and automation scripts. You will have responsible charge for developing, applying and maintaining quality standards for company products to include:
• Develops and executes software test plans.
• Analyzes and writes test standards and procedures.
• Write test scripts and test tools.
• Automate existing and new test cases.
• Analyzes test results to ensure existing functionality and recommend corrective action.
• Implement your ideas for evaluation methods in the design, development and debugging of software programs.
• Consults with development engineers in resolution of problems.
This role involves working on complex systems and problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors, including management systems, network protocols and interfaces. We will need you to exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
Required Job Skills & Areas of Direct Experience:
• Must be able to develop test plans, execute tests, document results, write defect reports and interact with development engineers in the addressing of issues.
• Have strong understanding of systems and integration testing, with a background in digital video processing and delivery.
• In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with MPEG, DVB, TCP/IP and RF.
• Must be familiar with broadcasting industry and video delivery use cases.
• Coding and test automation development skills.
• Self-driven with strong work ethics. Able to embrace challenging assignments and develop new approaches with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and communication skills. English language is required.
• Experience with embedded s/w testing preferred.
• Experience with standard performance and compliance tools preferred.
• Fast learner of complex technologies.
• Proactive in identifying product & customer issues, and helping to resolve them.
• Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.
Years of Direct Experience Required:
• 5 years of formal software testing, manual and automated.
• 3 years of automation scripting and programming.
Educational Requirements:
• BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. MS or higher are preferred.
• Python, C & C++ programming.
