Job Description
Silver Spring Networks is seeking an energetic, motivated technical writer to develop and deliver administrator, installation, developer, and user documentation for a wide range of software and hardware products. You are a ?technical? technical writer -- one who believes in knowing as much as possible about the technology you write about, so you can produce the best possible product documentation. You are a team player who knows that your project management skills, technical skills, people skills, and writing skills all come into play as part of being a good tech writer. You?ll like the challenge of joining a solid team in an exciting industry, in an environment where documentation truly makes a big difference to our customers.
Your job duties include:
Write or edit user, integration, implementation, administration, and installation guides, release notes, help, and UI content for both technical and semi-technical audiences
Analyze product requirements, technical specifications, and other sources of information and meet with product managers, engineers, project managers, and other subject matter experts to gather input for customer documentation.
Use and learn the products you write about, and research and track product changes and bugs
Meet aggressive deadlines as determined by software, firmware, or hardware release cycles
Create screenshots and diagrams as needed
Check in source and finished documents into a source control system
Required Experience
Excellent technical writing skills
Ability to develop productive rapport with a cross-functional team and represent Tech Pubs? interests at team meetings.
Ability to work independently and take full ownership of projects and deliverables
Equally comfortable writing new material or updating existing content; ability to juggle many different projects at different levels of development
Ability to set and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Technical understanding that lets you learn and write without depending on subject matter experts to produce most of the content
Bachelor?s degree or equivalent experience
Pluses:
Linux or UNIX command-line expertise
Knowledge of the utility industry and / or electricity.
Data center technologies (Oracle RDBMS, firewalls, multiple server configuration)
