The Storage Pre-Sales Systems Engineer is a highly technical professional adept at solving customer's storage challenges and deeply involved in the sales cycle for storage products. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of the storage industry as well as specialized knowledge of scale-out file systems. The position must provide technical leadership, storage solution consulting and subject matter expertise on the Omneon MediaGrid storage system, as well as other distributed storage architectures, file systems, and competitive storage offerings in the DAS, NAS and SAN product spaces.
As a part of the sales team, this position will need to identify and promote storage sales opportunities for the company and then drive the response to these opportunities or influence the requirements in order to successfully sell Omneon MediaGrid storage. Key to success will be collecting and understanding customer requirements for storage and then architect, design, configure and price the optimal high-performance storage solution.
This position will work closely with account managers in the creation of sales strategy and tactics while taking ownership of technical responsibilities during the sales cycle, including presentations, assisting customers with evaluations and benchmarks, system configurations, and system installations.
Position Responsibilities Include:
• Collaborate with sales teams and peers to determine best storage solution fit accomplished via conference calls, site visits, and email correspondence.
• Architect creative and innovative Omneon MediaGrid storage solutions aimed at solving business, operational, and workflow issues
• Contribute to meeting revenue targets by providing pertinent, timely and on-going customer technical information flow
• Contribute significant portions and/or lead responses to RFPs, RFQs and RFIs
• Maintain high level of knowledge on the company's products, roadmaps, competition and pricing.
• Propose and demonstrate the Omneon MediaGrid products and advanced technical concepts through the use of demo's, evaluations, white board, presentations, etc.
• Leverage relationships with channel partners to provide complete solutions to customer problems
• Deliver technical presentations and education to channel partners
• Assist, as needed, with industry speaking engagements or seminars
• Keep abreast of industry trends, best practices, and competing/complimentary products. Leverage the knowledge obtained in sales cycles
• Work with internal departments (sales, support, marketing, development), as appropriate, to ensure success during sales campaigns and/or to ensure the customer experience is extremely positive.
Required Job Skills:
• Must be able to communicate current features, benefits and other intricacies of the Omneon MediaGrid storage system to our customers in a coherent and organized manner, and support pre- and post-sales consulting services
• Excellent written and presentation communication skills with the capacity to articulate complex technical topics to varying customer audiences (administrators to executives).
• Preparation and delivery of technical product and architecture presentations
• Strong documentation skills in the development of deliverables such as design specifications and proposals
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to effectively manage multiple opportunities
• Superior knowledge of current and emerging storage architectures (FC, iSCSI, NAS, OSD, SAN)
• Networking and switching architecture knowledge ideal.
• Availability to travel freely within the geographic continent or region
Years of Direct Experience Required:
• Industry experience of 7+ years working with distributed and/or clustered file systems (AFS/DFS, NFS, VXFS, Lustre, NetApp, Isilon, BlueArc)
• Must have prior Pre-Sales Engineering Experience - at least 3 years
Areas of Direct Experience:
• Preferred: At least one year, selling storage systems or file systems such as Dell-Equalogic, EMC-Celerra, HP-Ibrix, IBM-GPFS, Isilon, NetApp, Symantec-Veritas, Quantum-StorNext in a technical role
Educational Requirements:
• BS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Sciences, or equivalent
