The Strategic Sourcing Manager will play a key decision-making role in the Product Management organization, positioned as a cross-organizational liason between Boingo?s product team and the companies supplying our core component technologies. In this role, the individual will be responsible for evolving and executing sourcing strategies as well as recommending product innovations based on improved technology. Key skills required include an interest and understanding in market dynamics, negotiation and pricing/packaging, customer and competitive behavior, and risk mitigation.
The role shall collaborate with the Product Management, Marketing, Business Development, Operations and Engineering teams in maintaining Boingo?s portfolio roadmap and ensuring that it adheres to Boingo?s business plan and growth initiatives. He/she will drive consistent vendor performance, continuous service improvement and business value through vendor-provided innovation, streamlined/efficient vendor management processes, co-marketing programs, contractual compliance and standards, and lowered IT operating costs while reducing vendor risk through regulatory compliance and financial risk management. The role is expected to demonstrate leadership expertise to establish strategic direction as well as significant depth of technical expertise in vendor management.
He/she will have strong written communication and change management skills; create passion, excitement and results in others; and articulate value propositions while providing strategic and tactical direction to evolve and grow a market-leading portfolio of intelligent wireless solutions. This individual will possess strong oral communication skills, able to clearly discuss and communicate trends and benefits to multiple levels internally and externally, and approach their contract-sensitive responsibilities with an exceptional level of integrity.
Evolve our Vendor Management
Develop, implement and refine the vendor management processes and policies for Boingo Wireless.
Collaborate across the Boingo organization to ensure business objectives are met
Drive change management on how we govern vendors and partnerships in support of key initiatives through leadership, coaching and communication
Manage and drive value from key vendor relationships
Effectively communicate assessments and recommendations to senior management and proactively identify potential supply issues which can affect Boingo?s portfolio strategy
Act as a decision maker on escalation points to ensure that contract disputes are resolved
Develop a clear understanding of our supplier landscape in order to assess the relevance of industry trends an gauge emerging competitive offerings
Identify changes in supply chain behavior and competition, leveraging dynamics to Boingo?s benefit.
Effectively interface with suppliers to negotiate optimal terms for sourcing, understanding the tradeoffs between cost, volume, and quality in order to strike agreements which secure long-term operational continuity and meet Boingo?s performance criteria
Develop and administer vendor/technology budgets and provides input into IT & Business Operations and budgets/allocation of funds
Work with key stakeholder groups to ensure the overall effectiveness of vendor supply, support, technology and marketing initiatives while assuring stakeholder satisfaction with vendor services
Manage annual budget forecasts/costs for the vendors and ensuring financial targets are met
Routinely analyze business cases and customer satisfaction surveys for the purpose of monitoring the financial impact and quality of vendor relationships
Optimize our global supply chain performance through cost/scenario analysis and benchmarking
Oversee all documented vendor processes and the sponsorship of initiatives aimed at creating and improving existing processes
Provide feedback to vendors on key vendor resources assigned to the Boingo account
Facilitate formal vendor appraisals
Build Relationships and Demonstrate Leadership
Serve as key matrix partner to revenue and operational leaders. Ensure successful management and leveraging of the matrix environment to meet objectives
Work in partnership with senior leaders on strategic initiatives related to vendor management to continuously improve policies, standards and procedures by anticipating issues, providing advice and sharing knowledge and best practices
Communicate regularly and effectively, building consensus across multiple constituencies
Share knowledge to strengthen understanding of IT and business issues and best practices; evaluate implications to Boingo
Develop and communicate organizational objectives; inspire and motivate teams to achieve results
Proven problem solving, analytical, negotiation and evaluation skills

Demonstrated experience leading inspirationally with a commitment to common goals and vision.
Strong financial acuity; demonstrated ability to understand the financial implications of build vs. buy, assess business cases, and construct and justify budgets

Excellent oral and written communication skills and group presentation skills. Comfortable presenting at c-level, both externally and internally

Master's degree in business, marketing, or a related field
Minimum of seven (7) years of previously demonstrated exceptional performance in business management or a sourcing environment, with experience in related or similar roles preferred.
Strong executive experience in the areas of vendor direction setting, budgeting and forecasting, project management, and performance management
Experience in assessing multiple data sources to enhance marketing, channels, and products
Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Experience conducting market assessments and developing commercial packaging & business plans
Prior P&L responsibility
Experience in the management of complex operational functions in a matrix environment.
Demonstrated experience working with broad cross-functional teams with ability to sell ideas and plans to internal constituencies, executives, customers, commercial team, analysts, and partners
Internal knowledge of the small cells business preferred
Experience in managing vendors servicing the travel and higher education vertical market segments
Global/international experience or exposure a plus
Willingness to travel nationally/internationally as needed
