JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Under the general direction of Engineering management, serve as a mid-level member of a design team providing conceptual design for engineering review and direction to drafting ? design personnel. Primary product lines for design activities will be unmanned aerial vehicles, modification of existing aircraft structures, fixed and rotary wing, and design-to-build activities for commercial and military aircraft including composite and metallic structure, mechanical system components/routings and electrical/avionics systems component installations.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consultant with Sr. Project Design personnel and structural/controls analysts in the preparation of conceptual designs and product details. Attends both internal and external design reviews; presents to customers, when required, in areas related to product configuration, packaging, physical integration with next level assemblies and tolerance analysis.
Generates CAD solid models and drawings at top assembly and component levels. Translation of design specification requirements into conceptual models is a primary requirement of the position with respect to construction of the product to meet interface boundaries, weight targets, and cost targets and under guidance of Sr. Design Engineering/Analysts, structural integrity. Ability to create parametric product geometry models desired.
Strong knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and CAD file structure is required, along with tolerance analysis capabilities. Experience in application ASME Y14.41 methods for Model Based Definition is highly desirable. Product background in some of the following product types required; resin fabric system composites and/or metallic bonded assemblies, sheet metal aircraft components, ferrous and nonferrous machined components, casting, forging and powdered metals in aircraft or ground defense vehicles or similar applications as evaluated by the hiring source.
Symbolic math package MathCAD, Maple or comparable experience is a bonus skill, but not required
Proficiency in MS Office application of Word and excel are required for preparation of tolerance analysis reports. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required; position will be responsible for presentation of data to both internal and customer audience. Prepare and present design review material in support of TIM, PDR, and CDR.
Create test procedures for products based on product requirements, customer specifications and MIL/industry test requirement documents. Monitor testing and analyze data to verify performance of the prototype product and design specifications; generate test reports for mechanical characteristics of product.
Conduct failure analysis examinations and prepare Failure Analysis Reports (FAR) of findings as required by customer in support of structural issues.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education and Experience)
BS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years? experience in a related field preferred; other product design experience in Military or Aerospace industries may be considered based review.
Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment. Ability to use a standard Desktop (PC) computer Windows-based tools and CAD to produce documents including drawings, plans, procedures and reports.
CAD design proficiency in support of duties required; the current software package in use is CATIA V5; experience in Unigraphics or Pro-E will be considered based on supporting background.
Experience with CATIA V5 Composite Part Design and/or FiberSIM is desirable, but not mandatory.
This person requires physical ability to maneuver around equipment in test labs and on aircraft.

SHIFT REQUIREMENTS: (Specify if irregular work hours or shift work will be required)
Day shift however may be required to work any shift and/or overtime in order to support production demands.
