Summary of Position
The Sustainability Maven?s primary objective is to bring to life the brand?s authentic and comprehensive commitment to environmental sustainability. Our industry is populated with (1) large paper and plastics companies who are unable to deliver credible sustainability messages and services to their customers, (2) small entrepreneurial companies who don?t have the resources to put against creating and delivering those messages and services, and (3) audiences of all kinds who are largely uneducated on all things sustainability. Still, there continues to be consistent and diverse demand for more sustainable foodservice packaging solutions, and the brand that emerges with the right combination of credibility and marketability will win the day. The Sustainability Maven will ensure that all brand messages are informed by the latest climate and material science, and will play a crucial role in the delivery of those messages to all brand audiences. The right candidate will also be able to manage an existing comprehensive carbon accounting initiative, alongside new work designed to give us a more complete understanding of our supplier partners.
Reports To: VP of Marketing
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Bring the brand promise to life by regularly interacting with key operators, distributors, sales reps, and other decision makers in the value chain
Support the Eco-Products sales team when challenging sustainability inquiries come in from the marketplace
Manage the Eco-Products Impact Assessment project, which measures the environmental impacts associated with the products we make, in addition to the impacts associated with our daily business operations
Initiate and manage supplier compliance program to help Eco-Products better communicate to customers about our supply chain
Manage operator sustainability service offerings including customized carbon footprint reports, closed ? loop recycling services, and waste diversion consulting
Participate in the broader national / global conversation on sustainability by making speaking appearances / contributing content at key conferences, trade shows, industry groups, and other relevant events
Manage existing training program with an eye towards getting more use our of our existing platform, and creating new content that is increasingly target specific
Contribute Sustainability content as needed to EP communication efforts to include: website, newsletters, videos, catalogs, etc.
Monitor regulatory environment both nationally and globally as it relates to foodservice packaging
5 or more years of successful business experience in Marketing Communication, Product Research, Design & Development, and/or Corporate Social Responsibility program management
Desired Education Level: BS/BA degree in Environmental Sciences or Marketing, MBA and/or an advanced degree in the Sustainability field a plus
Experience in the foodservice and/or disposable tableware market preferred
Experience communicating technical and complex topics in accessible, compelling ways
Self starter with a proven ability to assemble action plans independently and execute them within a cross functional environment
Experience with products sold into multi-step distribution channels and national accounts (foodservice a plus)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent teamwork skills with strong project management capabilities
Proven ability to train teams, work with customers, and deliver public presentations
Analytical skills with the ability to pull important patterns and messages out of complex information
Intermediate to advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite
Understanding of and experience with customer / consumer insight data
Attention to detail and accuracy with a commitment to excellence
Ability to multi-task, take risks, propose change, and solve problems creatively
Must be able to travel 10-30% of the time
Full time exempt position: 40 hours/week; Monday - Friday from 8am ? 5pm
