This role will provide ongoing support of all released Stratus UNIX (primarily Linux) and VMware ESX software products. Act as lead or assist on significant projects providing technical assistance to the members of the team and develop plans and schedules. Participates in the review of functional and design specifications, documentation and test plans; generates, tests, and debugs new or ported code; submits bug fixes and enhancements as requested.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Root cause and develop fixes for Linux problems; dump analysis skills are essential.
Adhere to Software Sustaining Engineering processes to report problems, describe bugs, enter fix data and report the availability of the fix in a software release version.
Be well versed on usage of various tools for tracking bugs, software version controls, release builds, packaging, etc.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Requires a BS technical degree or its equivalent; along with 7 to 10 years of software development experience in which at least 3 years were focused in a Software Sustaining role.
Strong Linux and/or VMware ESX knowledge is highly preferred.
Familiarity with using bug-tracking databases, source control utilities (e.g., Subversion, etc.), software patch deliveries and installations, and an understanding of sound engineering methodology are a plus.
Knowledge of Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) software design constructs and an understanding of kernel and user level threads is desired.
Software languages desired include C, C++ (or equivalent) and assembler.
