System Administrator Netronome
The role has three primary strategic objectives (i) aggressively migrate production systems and services to a cloud model, (ii) ensure that hardware systems retained in-house (primarily engineering) are adequately managed, with particular emphasis on a robust backup/restore policy implementation, and (iii) ensure that the policies and procedures relating to security are sufficient to protect Netronome?s Confidential Information and Intellectual property.
The disparate environment is quite complex incorporating several geographically distributed sites (MA, PA, CA, UK & SA), multiple disciplines (Software engineering, Silicon development, Hardware Development, Manufacturing Operations, Sales, Marketing, Finance), multiple platforms (Linux, Microsoft windows, MAC) and multiple services providers.
The System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of this diverse infrastructure. The individual needs to be pragmatically visionary, and must have the ability to work with all disciplines in this rapidly growing 200+ person company.
Essential Functions:
SA Engineering and Provisioning:
? Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
? Emphasis on cloud computing services and resultant organizational efficiencies.
? Evaluation of MIS/IT process improvement initiatives across multiple locations.
? Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
? Develop and maintain installation, configuration, security/access and backup procedures
? Contribute to and maintain system standards, applying automation and outsourcing where possible
? Responsibility for Budget creation, and adherence, based on corporate goals. Creative budget skills.
Operations and Support:
? Perform routine system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
? Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
? Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
? Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
? Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
? Provide support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
? Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
? Ability to manage substantial server farms in multiple locations
Maintenance:
? Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
? Upgrade and configure system software applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs.
? Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
? Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
? Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. Storage optimization experience is crucial.
? Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
? Analyze Help Desk trouble tickets and generate prioritized resolution plan meeting corporate key performance indicators. Principle will be to promote self-sufficiency among Users.
? Provide comprehensive lucid communications on IT-matters to the entire company
? Foster effective working relationships and consensus across geographical areas and functions.
? Research and interpret relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards relating to known best IT practices.
? Experience administering a LAN/WAN, TCP/IP environment using Windows server, including migrations to current OS
? Experience designing, implementing, and migrating to a new Windows domain with Active Directory
? Extensive hands-on capabilities pertaining to Cisco ASA, Windows domain administration, Windows server, Windows SQL database administration and Symantec Backup exec.
? 5+ years Linux System Administration and Windows with engineering experience. Extensive knowledge and proven experience of installing and supporting many Linux distributions, specifically RedHat Linux ES and Ubuntu. Knowledge of other operating systems, including Mac OS X, is a necessity.
? Experience with LAN/WAN connectivity through maintenance and troubleshooting of routers, switches, hubs, and network cards.
? Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, LDAP, TCP/IP, SMTP, IIS, SSL, Internet Infrastructure, Switching, IPv4 Routing, VLAN, IPv6 Routing, VoIP, Kerberos, NFS, Samba, IP Tables, SNMP and IP informational tools.
? Knowledge of complex web hosting configuration components, including firewalls, load balancers, web and database servers.
? Lab Planning experience - Determine power, cooling needs, floor plan, etc. for a set of IT equipment.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science.
Experience: Five (5) + years of progressively responsible and directly related work system administration experience.
Accreditations: Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Unix and Microsoft.
Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advance notice.
