Under general direction, evaluates the systems needs of internal departments and identifies solutions to problems. Provides hands-on technical support. Develops, tests, supports, and modifies systems and network devices. Documents all systems designed and modified. Will work independently at a development site; and as a team member in a global IT team.
Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience can be substituted for degree (ie. 2-4 years minimum related IT experience with some certifications)
5+ years experience of systems administration/technical support experience
2+ years experience of Unix/Linux administration
Advanced knowledge administering and troubleshooting Windows-based operating systems
Advanced knowledge administering and troubleshooting various UNIX/Linux server and desktop operating systems
Knowledge of virtualization technologies, backup and disaster recovery systems
Knowledge of Cisco routers and switches and the ability to administer and troubleshoot network connectivity (VLANs, routes, VPN clients, physical connectivity issues, etc)
Basic knowledge of SAN and shared storage environments
Ability to work independently in stressful situations; good problem solving skills
Good communications, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in the development process.
Basic knowledge of scripting languages (UNIX shell scripting, DOS batch files, VBS, PERL, etc).
A+, NET+ or similar certifications
MCSA/MCTS, or CCNA desirable
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to, the following:
Providing hands-on support for Engineering systems and hardware
Gather customer specific requirements and make recommendations to assist current and planned projects and needs
Recommends systems solutions and tools
Perform regular maintenance of systems, including: backups, antivirus, software updates, hardware upgrades and server/desktop troubleshooting
Develop, test and modify internal application systems. May be required to develop scripts to automatically deploy software or backups.
Codes, reviews, prepares test data, tests and debugs and manages implementation of system building
Revises and updates programs as required
Assist with corporate IT initiatives as required
Produces program, system and user documentation for all systems
Assists with the design and modification of internal systems required for the effective functioning of lab environments.
Maintains and enhances technology expertise, keeping current with evolving systems analysis, programming and database technology.
