About the jobThe life of a GSN Digital Systems Administrator is always intense. A day could start early with on-call pages then some virtual duct tape to mitigate the failure condition. Head to the office and have coffee over a follow-up meeting with the product owners and development teams to get a repair into the pipeline. After lunch, you?ll be tweaking internal and open source tools to wrap new monitoring around the leading indicators to that failure that woke you up so it doesn?t wake you up tomorrow. After all, you have to get some sleep so you can do a code release at 7am and kickstart some virtual servers after that.
About you
You?ve been on-call for a few years and you have a custom ringtone for your good friend Nagios that is loud enough your neighbors can hear it. You also have?
parsed logs and used packet sniffers to get to the bottom of client / server problems with networked applications
gathered, distilled and interpreted data from live systems to be used in detailed bug reports
performed software releases
racked and networked servers and brought them into the operational standard
worked with custom scripts and SQL databases to organize and interpret operational data
