The Systems Configuration Engineer must install and operate the hardware and software within the Virtual Lab environment. Along with the technical teams, the Systems Configuration Engineer needs to continually update an inventory of virtual computers within the Virtual Lab. They should ensure that vm?s and tools are created and implemented to facilitate the needs within the virtual lab environment. The Systems Configuration Engineer is also responsible for collaborating with multiple teams on configuration management, build, and release activities. This position will provide guidance and implement software and system configuration management, end to end system testing, troubleshooting, tier 3 level application support, build and deployment strategies along with maintaining the tools and environments to help the teams deliver major software releases.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field, required.
Create virtual machines within the virtual lab environment as needed.
Configure vm hardware and operating systems to meet requirements of both QA and Dev.
Install third party software on machines within the virtual lab environment.
Verify the integration of third party software with company applications.
Maintain operating system and business system updates on Base machines within the virtual lab.
Provide tier 1 level support with review of issues assigned to product development.
Maintain installation standards of systems development and documentation
Evaluation of third party software and systems
Provide Configuration Management information and support for release and integration efforts
Develop required scripts or code to automate and integrate configuration management efforts and processes
Deliver base-lined branches to the development and QA teams
Install and configure applications in the development, QA and staging environments
COMPETENCIES
This role requires a solid understanding or software test techniques and best practices.
Experience with the installation of operating systems and software in multiple configurations
Creative planning skills
Perform product and system updates
Experience working within a virtual environment
Familiarity with VM Lab software
Experience of System Administration and Configuration
Skill in resolving basic hardware/software problems or malfunctions
Skill in solid decision-making and problem solving skills
Experience with the following technologies a plus: .Net/C#, Silverlight, ASP.Net, HTML, JavaScript, Visual Basic, SQL 2005/2008 and XML
Hands-on experience performing software builds and releases
