GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Responsible for transforming market requirements into detailed product requirements, developing system architecture, defining interfaces, generating test plan, developing system controls, generate test report.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
System engineering process competence.
Working knowledge of grid and island power systems, heat recovery systems, switchgear and protective relaying.
Micro-grid, generator, heat recovery controls development; specifically embedded controls, PLC controls and SCADA controls.
System architecture, modeling, and algorithm development.
Network communications development.
Control panel design and documentation.
Plan and perform development, verification and validation testing.
Capable of installation and commissioning of micro-grid systems and troubleshooting non-operational and non-stable systems to identify non-compliant algorithms and implement design solutions.
Generate detailed product requirements, interface control, system controls and control algorithms, test plan, test report documentation.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Strong experimental, analytical, and computer skills including the ability to develop simulation models to produce data for analysis using Matlab/Simulink.
Experience with real-time closed-loop algorithm development.
Experience in PLC programming for power plant applications (turbines, heat recovery, steam generation, CHP, etc.) and HMI/SCADA development - preferably using Allen Bradley products.
C and Assembly Language experience desirable.
Working knowledge of IEC-61850 Electrical Substation automation design standard, familiarity with Schweitzer Engineering Labs (SEL) products desirable.
Demonstrated ability to write well documented software code.
Demonstrated ability to test, and verify software code.
Ability to program in a real-time embedded operating system (RTOS), to develop and tune Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) control governors.
Standard communication protocols (TCP/IP, MODBUS, DNP3, RS485,RS232).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
A minimum of 5 yrs experience as a professional engineer in industry.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Extended periods of time spent at a computer terminal.
Some light physical effort required.
Will be required to perform occasional lifting of light test lab materials.
Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work performed in a combination of an office and lab environment.
Travel to field sites required.
