Responsibilities:
System Design Level Testing ? The candidate will be responsible for coordinating and executing testing of new architectural applications and projects that arise from external and internal customers in order to win over new projects. This will involve assembling such architectures in the lab with Aurora Networks equipment and then organizing and scheduling resources to complete the testing in a timely manner. It will also consist of consultation with the field engineering, R&D and CTO organizations as to the scope of the testing required, and will also involve hands on testing by the Lab manager as well. Finally, well written reports will need to be issued summarizing the results to interested parties within Aurora Networks.
Component Level Testing ? The candidate will be responsible for planning and coordinating testing on individual Aurora Networks components, such as laser transmitters, receivers, RF nodes, DWDM actives and passives, EDFAs and other optical amplifiers, Ethernet transport devices, Media Converters, amongst others, as well as any other components designed and produced by the R&D department. This will involve testing the parts in isolation rather than in a system.
Customer Evaluation of Product Lines ? The candidate will be required to plan, organize resources, prepare test schedules, and attend to all issues with respect to testing performed in the Systems Development Lab for customers who come to do in-house evaluations of Aurora Networks product lines for Corporate approval.
Test Procedures and Policies ? Coordination and organization as well as personally writing design guidelines, Test Procedures and Policies relevant to the Systems Development Lab, according to SCTE standards for the particular measurements will be required.
Lab Construction and Automation Projects ? The candidate will design, plan and coordinate any construction projects related to the Systems lab. As the Lab grows in scope, objectives and testing capability, more test equipment will be introduced, and construction of capabilities such as signal generator banks will be needed. The candidate will also define how automation software should work for Labview contractors or in-house Labview experts. The candidate will have to understand the software and may also be required to write some of the Labview based automation code.
Day to day Management of the Systems Lab ? The candidate must have proven management skills to be able to manage multiple human and equipment resources in the lab, and to coordinate testing required by other departments in the company. This will require flexibility to provide testing equipment resources to other departments if and when needed for any testing needs they may have that can only be fulfilled in the Systems Development Lab. The candidate must be able to juggle multiple tasks and must be prepared to maintain the lab well stocked of parts and equipment, maintain a regular calibration schedule to ensure that all equipment is properly calibrated at all times, and oversee all the day to day details of running a laboratory.
Required Technical/Performance Skills:
Solid Knowledge and understanding of CATV Access RF and fiber optic technologies, such as optical fiber, laser Transmitters, EDFAs, fiber optic receivers, RF nodes, RF amplifiers, modulators, up-converters, Ethernet Transport devices, Media Converters, DWDM and CWDM passives, Digital reverse technologies and other commonly used technologies in the CATV industry, among others.
Hands on experience and solid working knowledge using HP and Agilent Spectrum Analyzers (e.g. 8591C or equivalent), and Network Analyzers (e.g. 8753D or equivalent), signal generators, QAM BER and MER test receivers, RF and fiber optic power meters, and familiarity with making performance measurements with them such as CNR, CTB, CSO, Cross Modulation, NPR and BER and S-parameter measurements, to current SCTE standards. Good familiarity with such standards and how they are applied to make these measurements is expected, and proven experience and knowledge of using them successfully in the past.
Solid and demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication, and experience in writing lab-style reports summarizing testing completed using precise language in a concise and well presented manner (please provide samples of writing or reports done in the past).
Ability and desire to take direction from immediate supervisor and other members of the team assigned to the particular project in supervisory positions at any time, as well as ability and desire to work autonomously with minimal supervision, under the direction of the direct supervisor, or in a team environment with multiple engineers and/or technicians.
Physically able to move heavy equipment that is used in the lab, as well as physical ability to move Aurora networks equipment and physical ability to set it up and clean connections accordingly.
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and absorb new technical concepts.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelors or Masters in an appropriate engineering field
7 to 10 years of experience in the telecommunications or CATV industry in a Laboratory, Head End or Field environment with significant experience in test and verification functions and tasks that regularly use CATV equipment, both RF and fiber optic, as well as proven supervisory and organizational experience in such environments.
Previous experience in managing, setting up, directing, constructing, organizing and heading up a laboratory for testing, preferably in the CATV or telecommunications industries.
Proven and solid supervisory experience over either engineers and/or technicians, such as those that are typically encountered in the CATV or telecommunications field.
Programming experience with Labview a major plus.
