Summary:
As a Systems Engineer, you will be a partner in the sales process, participating in the creation of sales strategy and tactics and taking ownership of technical responsibilities within customer accounts. This includes presentations, technical account management, assisting customers with evaluations and benchmarks, system configurations, and system installations. Post-sales support is typically handled through the X-IO Customer Service organization; however, the Systems Engineer may be called upon to provide on-site problem resolution as necessary, and may also be called on to assist with trade shows and industry events. This is a presales position that provides technical resources to XIO employees, customers and Solution Providers to facilitate the sale of X-IO enterprise storage solutions.
Principal Duties:
Conduct and/or participate in presale product presentations, demos, customer evaluations and ROI analyses.
Deliver technical presentations and respond to technical questions during sales calls.
Provide technical content for bids and sales proposals.
Develop and recommend Storage Area Network configurations, including fibre channel switches, hubs, tape storage and XIO hardware and software products.
Install XIO storage products and connect servers at customer?s site as needed.
Train customers and Solution providers on the use of X-IO hardware and application software.
Establish and cultivate ongoing business relationships with customers to facilitate additional business.
Document prospect & customer contact activity and customer configuration information in X-IO systems. Document personal activity with status and time reporting.
Prepare and deliver of technical product and architecture presentations at CIO level
Develop technical solutions to customer business issues, including and identifying new technologies or technologies outside of XIO products and solutions.
Contribute to meeting revenue targets by providing pertinent, timely and on-going customer technical information flow
Contribute significant portions and/or lead responses to RFPs, RFQs and RFIs
Contribute to building 'Best Practices' among peers in sales and systems engineering.
Qualifications:
Must be a highly technical professional possessing in-depth knowledge of the storage industry as well as specialized knowledge of VMware, UNIX and Windows file systems.
Must demonstrate technical leadership and subject matter expertise on X-IO products, virtualization, distributed storage architectures, file systems, and competitive storage offerings in the iSCSI, NAS and SAN product spaces.
5-7 years minimum experience supporting the sales of enterprise storage, networking or systems solutions to large agencies and programs.
Previous experience providing Systems Engineering support for Sales Representatives
Ability to translate technical features into tangible customer business benefits
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to travel up to 50% of the time.
Technical Skills:
VMware and Citrix
UNIX OS, NFS file systems and UNIX distributed network environment
Windows Server, SMB and CIFS file systems
Good working knowledge of access/permissions including DNS, Active Directory, LDAP, Unix ACLs, and OpenDirectory
Installation/configuration of distributed computing, multiprocessing, virtual memory subsystem, storage subsystems architecture, shared memory architectures, cache architectures, windowing systems
Local Area Networking, Ethernet, TCP/IP, general networking
Thorough understanding of the architecture, design and implementations of multi-tiered client/server and web-based computing solutions
Knowledge and familiarity with related third party products in Web and Content Delivery Network architectures
Superior knowledge of current and emerging storage architectures including FC, iSCSI, NAS, SAN
Education
Bachelor's degree (Computer Science or Information Technology) from four-year college, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
