Systems Engineer SeaMobile
GENERAL PURPOSE: Systems Engineers must take a holistic look at new products introduced by
MTN. Specifically, Nexus is a complex interaction of onboard systems, and core network elements. A
Systems Engineer will be responsible for verifying that these systems are functioning efficiently (and, as
? Participate in development of product requirements for new products, and future releases of
? Identify possible solutions to each requirement of MTN Nexus, and work with various
organizations to vet all possible solutions ? then, facilitate analysis and selection of the chosen
? Work with product teams to implement schedules into phases (releases) to create manageable
milestones for the rollout of new capabilities
? Assess progress, and identify risks to the schedule. Work with responsible organizations to
develop recovery plans when schedules are at significant risk.
? Define minimum requirements, and sign-off on completeness of each new element rolled out, to
ensure its quality and supportability in operation.
? Measure quality, reliability, and cost effectiveness of each new capability deployed ? identify any
underperforming elements, and work on improvement plans.
? Work with marketing in the development of presentation material and network descriptions.
? Participate in the support chain, and take responsibility for organizing troubleshooting efforts
when the ?problem? is outside any one development group?s area of expertise.
? Develop Best Practice documents and configuration guides in conjunction with product teams and
operations ? Systems Engineers provide the translation of design goals into operational products.
? Any other duties/responsibilities as may be assigned.
NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS: This position reports to the Head of the WiFi team, and will
interact with all levels of internal and external contacts.
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
? 7+ years? relevant experience
? Technical experience in network operations ? installation technician, onsite support, and
customer solution design.
? Network planning and design ? previous experience with direct responsibility for designing
solutions to complex network problems.
? Sales or Account Management ? developing and presenting plans to customers or prospects
? Cross-functional management style ? with few direct reports, but leading many indirect
personnel; this role requires a cooperative management style, with clear and direct
communication skills (both verbal, and presentation)

? Understanding of back-office data systems for network management and operations.
PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS: Some travel, extensive telephone use, and significant time at a
