Overview:
The Systems Engineer will implement and support all Intel customer application environments. The position is responsible for designing and coordinating complex infrastructure projects. Deliverables include documenting and diagraming all environments. This role is responsible for troubleshooting and debugging all issues in collaboration with production support and development teams. Systems Engineer will collaborate and mentor team members on deployment of all hardware and software with a focus on continuing to improve infrastructure processes.
Principal Responsibilities:
Successful delivery of infrastructure projects to support SciQuest customers. Project success is measured against defined goals maintained in the project charter.
Coordinate system development tasks to include design, integration, and formal testing.
Oversees all infrastructure transitions into production.
Test systems before deployment into production.
Develop and complete actions in system specifications, technical and logistical requirements, and other disciplines.
Create and maintain programmatic and technical documentation to insure efficient planning and execution.
Manage and document system configurations.
Perform customer facing tasks including SSL certificate maintenance, firewall modifications, and FTP access.
Maintain public DNS for customer sites.
Monitor production systems and take corrective actions in a timely manner.
Install and configure server peripherals including network storage devices and server software, applications and packages.
Assists in the planning, design, documentation, and implementation of various systems to include servers, network equipment, and software applications.
Analyze and identify server and network security issues. Recommend and implement security measures and solutions.
Maintain server documentation and procedures. Submit reports to management as required.
Monitor servers and network for abnormal performance, failures, or unauthorized access and take required steps to minimize downtime or loss of data.
Schedule, verify, and maintain backups for users and databases. Restore lost or corrupted data and files as required.
Mentor teammates on new technologies and best practices.
Position Requirements:
4-6 years work experience with enterprise network and server implementations.
2-3 years virtual infrastructure design and implementation. VMware preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred.
Several years experience with Windows Server platforms with an emphasis on Active Directory.
Solid knowledge of LAN/WAN configurations to include experience with routers and switches, Internet firewalls, Load Balancers, Proxies, and wireless technologies.
In depth knowledge and practical experience with Storage Area Networks (SAN).
Experience setting up and managing database systems such as SQL Server.
Advanced hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
Maintains quality customer service skills, a strong work ethic, and is a team player with the ability to work well independently.
Must possess above average organization skills, excellent communication skills, and can demonstrate problem solving skills.
Considered an out of the box thinker and displays a willingness to learn.
Ability to communicate with a wide range of users of varying technical ability.
Experience with server backup solutions.
Excellent organizational, documentation, communication and people skills are required.
Travel requirements: currently 40% for next 6 months; ongoing 25% to 30%.
