Brightree, of the top 5 fastest growing companies in Georgia, and the fastest growing Internet-based business management solution in the Home Medical Equipment market, is seeking a Tax Accountant. This position is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and preparing the appropriate taxes on software as a service (SaaS) sales and transactions, and will assist in the preparation of use documents and tax returns. This position reports to the VP, Finance and will be responsible for understanding and assisting the company with compliance in local and state taxation matters across the U.S. The role will require research regarding past tax collection and payment practices, and will be responsible for establishing tax policy for each locale the company serves. This is a highly visible role within the accounting department, and will require frequent interaction with executive management. This person will be responsible monitoring activities to insure ongoing tax compliance, and will need to have experience making sound, fact-based corporate tax decisions. We are seeking someone who is smart who enjoys what they do. We need a problem solver, and not simply a problem finder. The right candidate is careful, thorough and creative.
? Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all tax related issues for the company.
? Perform tax code research from many different states and municipalities to be able to articulate clear and timely recommendations on key tax issues.
? Review the company?s software products and analyze product lines to determine taxability in various locales.
? Update accounting systems with taxable status.
? Identify tax requirements to address future SaaS related transactions.
? Preparation and/or review of state sales tax returns.
? Overseeing tax compliance & reporting within the corporate accounting department while working with other groups across the organization (accounting, legal, finance, sales, etc.)
? Determine the amount of sales and use tax that the company is required to pay monthly
? Work with the VP, Finance on interfacing with outside advisers on tax related projects as needed
? Must have the resources and ability to stay current on US tax laws as it relates to software as a service. Will constantly review and monitor changes in local and U.S. tax legislation, rulings, regulations and litigation
? Responds to requests for tax information by internal or external customers and taxing authorities, and resolves compliance issues with taxing authorities.
? Reviews contracts, acquisition and disposition proposals and other proposed company actions for tax consequences.
? Makes calls to customers related to outstanding sales tax issues.
? A sales tax accounting background and experience dealing with tax accounting implications
? Bachelor?s Degree in Accounting
? Able to creatively research, analyze, and conclude specifically assigned US tax issues with minimal supervision
? Able to work closely with groups within a corporate structure including finance, legal, operations, etc.
? A team-player attitude with a willingness to assist other accounting team members with tasks as needed
? CPA preferred, but not required
? Understanding of income tax laws associated with an LLC as it relates to equity and distributions reporting
? Masters in Accounting, Finance or Taxation is preferred
? Knowledge of Avalara or similar sales tax automation software
